When you press the pedal down it should bite fairly quickly/low as you allow the pedal to return to the top, it shouldn't bite near the top of it's travel, that would imply your clutch is on its way out.
Two ways to check
1) Put the car in 4th gear and try to move away, on a flat road that is, you car engine should stall very quickly, if it stalls straight away clutch is fine. If however the engine revs begin to rise and it doesn't stall quickly, then you got a problem.
2) Find a steep hill and drive up it in a higher than normal gear and give it some gas if the speed increases with the revs your OK, if revs climb but the car doesn't increase in speed accordingly then again your clutch may be worn.
