How does you JTD drive?

well i changed the MAFF on my sisters JTD.. yes.. it was gone... but puttig a new 1 in only really gave it a bit more.. and allowed to to accelerate up to 5.5K revs

It is quicker.. but doesn't feel it... u just grunt ur way to 70mph rather than have a kick up the arse to 70.

you really should consider a re-map or tuning box... and depending on wot sort of person u are... choose between high torque and high bhp...

if u like top speed.. go for BHP

if you like acceleration... choose torque.

As a matter of comparison... my JTD now with the different re-map has taken 12MPH off the top speed... but the power is delivered a lot better...

It still does 70mph.. so im happy with it :)

hopefully i will get it remapped in the future, im just a little concerned about the engine characteristics, surely it isnt normal to feel no turbo kick whatsoever....what about diesel injector treatments are they a big no no?

any idea on injector treatments, ive seen some STP diesel injector stuff for sale. Im thinking the car may be a little clogged up as its a 2000 X reg but its only done 53K (just) so is well below average mileage

Well there isn't much kick... not when going up the gears normally.

if ur doing say 10mhp in 2nd and ur waiting for the turbo to come in.. then u get a rush of power.... but thats only cos it does bugger all acceleration untill that happens... hence y u notice it.

my sister has a standard JTD and she likes it.. but she loves to go out in mine because it's quicker acceleration for overtaking. 0-60 is only a second or 2 quicker......

so maybe i dont have too much of a problem then, im planning to change the oil & filter, Air filter, slap some injector treatment in and then maybe change the fuel filter (as you said it was a 2 min job Tommy ;) )

Thanks for the replies

5mins for the fuel filter....

crash course in doing it...

unclip all the plastic things that keep the pipes tidy... unplg the top and bottom sensor wires on the filter.. blue top yellow bottom i think.....

un-screw the 3 nuts holding the fuel filter to the back of the engine bay...

now rotate the whole thing anti clockwise untill u can easliry get a grip on the filter... u have to pull it to the left to get it round the plastic vacume thing that opperate the EGR valve... but there is enough slack in the pipes to do this....

put a rag/town down the back of the engine, under the fuel filter.. and unscrew it quickly and put the filter back upright so no more diesel spills down the back...

write the date and millage on the new filter... put a bit of oil round the rubber seal... like on the oil filter... and screw it back up....

reverse the process and its done!!

********** REMEMBER to remove the diesel covered rag from the under filter... AND check the water trap screw @ the bottom of the fuel filter is done up tight!!!! Mine wasn't and i lost about £10 worth of diesel driving up the road!!!**********************

If you're looking for a real pull when the turbo comes in you're not going to get it with a Bravo JTD if you keep it in std tune. Buy the 100TD instead. This has a bigger turbo and when you floor it the engine really comes alive and is much more fun car to drive.

If you're sticking with the JTD then get it remapped asap. You will never go back and will kick yourself you waited to get it done. It really is painless apart from the £300 or so. This Tommy K remap map seems particular to his car. If you have the 100JTD HLX you should be looking at a significant increase in performance. You will not be sorry. If your engine is for some reason not performing as it should then Angel tune can tailor the map to suit your car. But be warned the only downside may be clutch slip. But again this depends on how your car has been driven and how you now drive it.

But get that remap. It is a no brainer. The JTD in std tune is pretty gutless.

Hope this helps to crystallise your mind.
