Technical How do you change the speedo?

Can any of you wise Sage's advise me how to change the speedo pod on a 2001 diesel bug?

I have had intermittent issues with the speed going on/off for some while, but now the speedo is not working most of the time. I have bought a second hand pod and would like to fit it, before I get few speeding tickets.

Its easy enough.

First pull out the middle knob for the fan speed control then undo the screw behind it. People suggest pulling out the gear stick housing/sleeve but once i did this to change a bulb behind the fan controls i realised it wasn't necessary. Once you have undone the screw if i remember rightly the fan control fasia just pulls off, it has those stupid clips so becareful.

Once you have pulled most of it free the housing around the speedo becomes loose and pulls off also, again those stupid clips so becareful. Once the housing comes away there is a screw at the back and 2 screws at the front and it just lifts away if i remeber rightly there are 2 cables connected to it.
