as above. what are the steps by steps when fittin this engine? can it be done?

mmate i would just buy a hgt as it will cost more to put the engine in than it would to buy 1

but i like the interior and exterior of my car just wanted a bigger engine

tbh m8, it would be cheaper to buy a HGT and build the inside and outside to the same standard as your 1.2 and u will then have a bigger engine, for a conversion you mite as well buy a HGT for all the parts any way, then theres the cost of the labour to convert it all which wouldnt b easy (need HGT wings and bumper etc)

ok ok. wat about fitting a 1.6 or 1.8 is that any easier

so its expensive and pointless to fit anyother engine but not a 20vt? that would cost more

What you gain from a 2.0 T compared to a HGT engine is far more worth the money!

I'm guessing people havent read you HG has gone, fitting another engine is a pain as really you need a full donor car or you'd be left without upgraded brakes etc. You also have the cost involved its a lot of man hrs to swap everything over, which is fine if you can do it all yourself and have all the kit, but if it needed to go to a garage it would cost £££££'s, you could pick up a nice 1.8HLX for not too much money now, so you need to ask if its worth the hassel etc. Also will be more expensive to insure and trickier as its a transplant than say a standard 1.8HLX.

Plus search on here.

Chris,
Why do you think I sold the 1.2 and bought a HGT in same colour? :)
Easiest and cheapest way is to buy a new motor and swap all the parts over that you need.

had no idea of what it would involve thats why i asked buy seems it is harder and more easier to buy another car and swop everything over. might just sack it and keep the 1.2

Changing an engine to a bigger one is worth it if the manufacturer doesn't produce that particular car.

That's why people with Nova's stick the Calibra lump in...

It would be far easier & cheaper just to go out an buy an HGT, due to it being a production car.

i know where the original poster (postee??) is coming from.

I love my 1.2, I trust my 1.2, i have got used to my 1.2 but i want a 2lt 20v.

I ( and original poster) don't want the uncertainty that comes with buying a whole new car.
What will be wrong with it....will I ever be this happy with the next one?

I know just where you're coming from mate. If you want transplant an engine, then do it and the rest be damned!!!!:)

But once you've changed the engine the only thing you will be certain of is the state of the bodyshell.

New engine needs new wiring.
New engine needs new exhaust.
New engine needs new fuel system.

You've basically changed 75% of the parts that can go wrong for different ones.

still that feeling of
"its my car and i know it inside out" :)

personally i would just go and buy another car if i really was desperate for the 20v.

I'm not so i haven't :)

i think it would be worth the engine change. it is somethink different and if you are driving along no one would expect it. it is persinal taste realy.

life is to short to look back
