Hi!

I am lucky to own a 1969 Fiat 500F. It is the first classic car I have ever owned, and I am a complete novice!

The horn on my beautiful car has stopped working. I have done some fault finding - checked the fuse, removed the horn button and confirmed wiring and contact all looks fine. Then I traced that sneaky black and yellow wire all the way to the horn itself. Here I found cracked casing and exposed wire where the wire meets the horn. Wrapping some electrical tape around the wire didn't fix the problem.

I think I need to cut the wire and splice in an extension.... but, how do I know what gauge to use? I've been hunting through manuals and wiring diagrams, but don't really know what I am looking at.

Thank you for your advice.

You say you have checked the contacts and they are OK, when the horn on my 500F stopped working I found that the two semi circular contacts that the horn button made contact with were completely flattened down so when the horn button was pressed the contacts did not touch each other. Simply bending the contacts up again cured the non working horn. May be worth a look just in case.
