Hi all

Have had a good read through your forum and there appears to be plenty of great help and advice on offer. My question to you all though is as follows....

i have around £2500 i am willing to spend on a people carrier, sick of my galaxy and am getting rid. I have seen several ulysse on offer that kind of seem ok... ie decent millage service history and so on. Obviously the older shape are a bit cheaper and from reading the forum also appear to be more reliable. People on here talk alot about the electrical gremlins of the newer shape ulysse but is that a fair representation of the car when most people that join forums like this do so when there is a problem with there car in the first place?

Im no stranger to mpvs, so know their drawbacks although having loved my toyota estima for several years with only ever having one problem with it (contary to what you would think reading their forum) know the varied oppinions of people.

So sorry for going on and back to the question. Do i spend my full budget on the lowest millage best service history newest car... or go with gut instince and get an older shape and set aside a couple of hundred quid to do cam belt and cosmetics like stereo etc..

thanks for reading and hopefully replying all thoughts will be greatfully taken onboard :worship:

Hi
We used to have a diesel mk1 ulysse loads of problems, instrument panel failed £250.00 to fix, then high pressure fuel pump failed £800.00 to fix, then needed new clutch £800.00 to fix, then gearbox started to make noise thankfully written off in car accident.

Currently have a 2.0 petrol eleganza on a 2004 plate with manual gearbox, wonderful car has been totally reliable, only one problem to date, headlights keep switching on and off when switch is off, we just drive with head lights on all the time now, needs new switch which we will get done.

Both models of this car have problems, diesel version are more problem cars than petrol.
Mk2 diesel version have cam-belts snapping early, anti pouiltion faults showing up, a diesel additive which cost a fortune to replace, turbo problems.

All cars seem to have electrical problems, we have been luckly.
Fuel consumption for our car petrol is 25mpg around town and up to 35mpg on a run, a friend of ours has a 2.2 diesel peugout 807 and get 28 mpg around town and up to 38 mpg on a run.
peugout 807, fiat Ulysse and citroen c8 are all the same cars.
Best of luck

i have a '97 2.0 S which has just received a new MOT courtesy of a new Cat and a lower left suspension arm. Not bad for an old car really. OK i did buy a new battery a few months back, it has a slight oil leak from somewhere and one of the back doors only locks via central locking when it feels like it; it's a comfy car, seats 8, does reasonable mpg and gives me very little hassle - i'd buy another (mk1 petrol mind, mk2s and diesels seem jinxed)- maybe an auto next as my biggest gripe is the heavy clutch.

thanks for the feedback..

well managed to find a 1.9 TD EL very good condition on a T plate. Full service history with the cam and water pump done at 80k. currently has 107k on it with a full mot, needs a few cosmetic things doing but fingers crossed thats about it until a full service in a few months time. with my old crappy problem pain in the ass galaxy thrown in its only setting me back £1500 and comes with a couple of months warranty. Hopefully my posts in the future will be positive and praiseworthy........ time will tell
