Hmm, that bax-box is looking a bit rusty.....

you can ask powerflow for a quiet system al, just with a lifetime garrentee! mine is loud when hammering it and is very quiet on the motorways! you could just ask for a standard noise if you really want! just stainless!

@Smee..if powerflow is so **** then why have they got dealers across the country and give everyone a life time garrentee??? you are reffering to the pipe work between boxes, you can ask for the same stainless as the other boxes and will be shinny for life if you keep it clean!

@tom... i was told that supersprint have stainless internals but the outer casing isnt stainless, and you only get a 3year garrentee, not a life one!

Paul R

The pipes, internals, end caps and tail pipes are stainless and welded with stainless weld. The sheet metal of the box is aluminium coated steel so won't rust either. Thats the only non stainless bit.

Surely powerflow are no better if they use a different grade of stainless for the pipes. Stainless can rust, only 316 is designed to be used in conditions where salt is present.

Do you know if they weld it with stainless welding wire? I heard somewhere they use mild steel welds.

in all honestly i dont know! powerflows are a franchise at the end of the day so you can get bad ones, my current one seems very very well made, far superior to my other powerflows...ui guess it just depends on if the bloke making it is in a good mood or not!

grade 316, is that the stainless that has a polished finish, thats what you can not have the pipes made out off! thats what the boxes and tail pipes are made from!

also if a weld oges then you can just take it back and they repair it for free, i know that not the point but it takes a worry away!

dont get me wrong, i had a supersprint on my last hlx and was happy with it, just wouldnt personnaly spend that much money on an exhaust without a life time garrentee....i plan to keep my hgt for a long time so a lifetime garrentee is good for me...if that wasnt an isue then i would take the supersprint over the powerflow!

but al is saying he wants one that never needs replaceing????

Paul R

316 is a grade, not a surface finish, it can be shiney or matt like the bits sat on my desk.

As you say it is dependant on the guy who welds it, but I'm not prepared to spend any sort of money on something that could fall apart due to poor workmanship.

Is there any other part of your car with a lifetime guarantee?

urm....no...

but every little helps!

if it falls apart you take it back and they give you a new one! i dont know of anyones powerflow ever needing to go back! and all my friends have had 1 at some point!

the supersprint is the better engineered piece of kit, but it oesnt have a lifetime garrentee, you might as well get a standard exhaust as it will probably last the same time!

why do supersprint give only 3years?

Paul R

We shall see in 2.25 years when mine is 3 :)

My last 2 standard exhausts both failed at the welds so I can't see the supersprint failing in the same way.

anyway Oz, if this is a money saving drive why are you considering changing it before yours is more than just looking a little rusty?

powerflow wont be able to make a fiat engine quiet. its just the design. i got the biggest boxes they could fit on mine, and its still much louder, and deeper sounding, than a standard one.

It's a bit more than a little rusty Cynic. Just getting some early opinions so that I know what sort of money I need to save up.

I'm feeling constructive again ;)

May i just add that the Supersprint cat-back on mine has the opposite effect i desired.

Seem to have lost some low end torque (like there was any in the first place), makes a constant boom instead of throaty warble from 750rpm to 3500 rpm and above 3500rpm the noise is just like standard exhaust (perhaps a tiny bit louder).

After hearing 'Jayfish' car on that video i can safely say it sounds no where near as good...god knows why?

Once drove a MK1 HGT with a cheap universal back box the size of a drainpipe which sounded far harder but couldnt bear the look of it!

The Powwerflow on mine is a bit loud on motoways, but hey turn the radio up,
All the Powerflow is stainless, welds, brackets the lots no spots of rust just road dirt all over it atm. Mine was made up just north of Norwich.
Its been on a year, 25k miles, no blowing or rust.
Dunno if they can make a quiet zorst tho, powerflow are normally noisy!

Pete

DONT WORK FOR THE CO-OP THEY DONT PAY PERIOD!

i know you can specify the noise levels...they gave me the options before, i asked for loud, boy what a mistake that was!!! i then asked for sporty-loud, and this suits my tasts perfectly!

its quiet on motorways, and loud when you have your foot planted!

its personnal oppinion at the end of the day!

Paul R

Paul, sounds like you were lucky, and got someone who knew how to tweak the boxes and sizes/bore etc to get the right sound. normally they are just loud!

loud?

sorry to join the string so late, i've got a powerflow on my 1.8 hlx and thats loud, thought that was part of the point of getting an aftermarket exhaust, apart from power gains. gotta let everyone know your coming

Re: loud?

@light...i ashumed this was the same with all powerflow dealers, if this isnt the case then i probably wouldnt get a powerflow, that was part of the experiance for me, picking the noise levels the tail pipes etc, just making sure its exactly what i want!

@josh...its down to you own taste at the end of the day though isnt it?

Paul R

Re: loud?

one thing has always put me off performance/custom exhausts,

motorway noise!

there is nothing that annoys me more than that constant drone you seem to get on the motorway!
