Hi guys, bought a pair of MK1 HLX alloys ro run winter tyres on, am a bit confused as to which tyre sizes i can run on them. I have an HGT 155.

Book says:

HGT - 205/50/15 or 195/55/15

HLX - 195/50/15 or 185/55/55

Why is there a difference in tyres sizes, are the alloys smaller etc?

Runnig 205/50/15 on my HGT at the moment.

re

the first number is the width, hgt have must have slightly wider tyre, but i expect you can put any of the sizes above on as long as they match!

for winter tyres i'd go thinner? to cut through any snow/gravel/mud? lol

if you ever watch rallying they have surprisingly thin wheels/tyres on gravel/snow stages!

Yup will be going for 195's i think in a top brand winter tyre, as have had a few slides on the snow, its really bad where i live.

Also 195's means i can run snowchains on them and the volvo's.

So basically the widest the HLX alloys can accept safely etc is 195 but it dont matter if there 50 or 55.

Thanks

I have the 195/50/r15 on my mk2 HLX.
They are significantly cheaper to buy than the 185's.

for winter you dont need wide tyres but thiner and higher profile ones so 195/55/15 would be a better choice between those two. but 185/55/15 would be even better and they are 0.17% smaller in diameter then 205/50/15. check the tyre size calk here:
