Well don't know about mine as it was in with a load of other things (re: engine conversion) but a good friend was told his insurance would go from 1100 (1st year in a 1.1) to a whopping 1600 JUST fot elloy wheels

I'm trying to find out who it was (nobody big, I'm lead to believe)

What about you guys? What are you paying?

All that happened when I asked about alloys was that my excess would increase to £50 (from £0). That was with Performance Direct, as the broker and Highway as the Underwrighter.

different underwriters put different loads on like fortis puts a 25% load and Norwich Union put 10% so it all depends

Mine is completely standard just now so don't know about that, but my cousin is getting an astra, and enquired about adding 16" alloys to it....he was quoted just £10 on top of the original figure! I was bloody shocked when he told me. Cant remember what the quote itself was, though he said was best he could find, and that was with Elephant. He's 27 with 1 yrs NCB btw.
(oh, and it wasn't 10 for each wheel!)
So yeah, it really depends on the person and company etc.

Yeah it seems that way, the sad thing is simply

WHY!?

99% of alloys are not bought to make a car go faster, and insurance companies know this, true VERY nice ones make it more knickable, but standard 5 spokes as oppose to steelies? Well not much of a difference there is there?

Then you ought to tell them quick IMO - you never know, you may need your insurance tomorrow...................you don't want to give them a reason to invalidate your policy do you? As well as being illegal (defrauding insurance company), but that's been done before, so we'll leave it at that :)

hello mr insurance i was just on my way home to tell you that i just got these nice alloys fitted and sum fool went in to me!!1;)

just swap them out before the insurance assessor comes to see the car....

Oh, I mean bad... naughty, tell them at once

i did tell them and they said they wont load the premium but if i claim(crash) they will only give me the amount for the standard car.. basically insurance doesnt go up but i can do whatever i like (excl. engine) to it, which i like as i dont have any expensive wheels etc.

Very similar to elephant, they seemed to only care about engine mods, but paint work and wheels and body kit, you just dont get money if you crash

does anyone know if liverpool victoria/frizzel charge anything for adding alloys?
cheers Alex
