General High revs on start up

Hi all, I have a brava that on start up revs right up to about four grand althought it seems like it would redline if I did not touch the acelerator. Usually it recurects itself after after I have depressed the pedal and settles back to the normal rev range. It is more predominant on cold starts. What do you think could cause this? I think it may be a sensor but which one that is the question nath

let me guess, its a 1.2?

if it is a 1.2 then the problem is likely to be either the idle speed control actuator is not moving to the cold start position, or the throttle position sensor is faulty and not sending a closed signal when starting.

If its any use, my car was shooting up to 2000 rpm on some starts until i put some injector cleaner through the system. It hasnt done it since (touch wood) so that might be worth a go.
