HGT head unit

i want to change my head unit in my HGT to a dvd player but i dont want to lose my disc changer.

Is it possible to buy a convertor of some sort to make it work with a new head unit i buy ?

What would you say be a good dvd player to get,
im looking for one were the screen flips up and i want to connect a sub and amp up

The alpine ones are very good. You could buy a DVD head unit to go in the slot where the CD changer is and then a flip up screen up where the HU is.

What about plugging a sub and amp into my current HU ? is this possible ?

Yes through a line level converter. It's really not ideal. If I were you I wouldn't worry about the CD changer or standard HU. The quality will always be poor and you have things like iPod connectivity that are much more useful than the changer anyway.

If you did get a DVD unit then you can put albums on DVD. That's what I often do.
