HGT Camtiming problem HELP!!!!

Im repairing a 20v r reg hgt that had broken its cambelt and bent all the valves, as the belt broke it wound round the bottom pulley breaking the alloy casting removing its timing mark but i took note and marked tdc when the head was off. now its back together with the crank mark on tdc, the exhaust cam on its mark and the inlet cam set to oppose it like a normal dohc but the darn thing wont spark. does anyone know how to set the camtiming? have i missed something? any help most welcome.... ta.

Hi tony

just wondered what you mileage was when the cambelt went....where there any warning signs / sounds?

I have an R reg 147 HGT on 48k miles. Do I need to seriously start thinking about changing it now?

any advice most appreciated, especially if there are other examples of HGT cambelt problems...

Its probably damaged the cam and crank sensors. Are you SURE there is no spark from the plugs? If you've got the cams in almost the right place it should run just very badly.

This vehicle had done 74000 miles, you very rarely get any warning of cambelt failure the engine just stops.

I've finally sorted it by buying a proper camshaft locking tool that surrounds the cam lobes. When the engine is timed correctly the crankshaft pulley is on its mark but the exhaust cam sprocket mark is nowhere near its mark. i'll never do another one of these. THANKS.....

It`s a small garage run by ex-Fiat mechanics. I haven`t used them yet as my car is still under warranty, so has to be done by main agents, but I have heard no bad reports.

p.s. They aren`t big enough yet to be V.A.T. registered, so you save 17.5% straight away!
