Nope that garage doesn't do the skimming! it will be picked up by his parents tomorrow and dropped off to be skimmed then :(

Think they are just shagging him because he isnt letting them do all the work :<

oh, i thought the 90 was skimming included...... thats quite pricey just to remove the head then. theres not much precision involved in getting the head off tbh, shouldnt be more than 50-60

my spare engine was an mpi so i do indead have a spare mpi head :D
also it hasnt suffered a head gasket failure so head should be fine for a straight swap over for a small price :D about 15 bucks and ill take your warped head and you take the good un :)

aww **** :( I think it may be too late for that. I am sure he told the garage to take out the head and he is going to get it picked up tomorrow, but I will phone him once he is out of the gym later and see!

Even if the garage is doing it, all the pieces will be ready to go on Sunday :D

How much oil and coolant will I need to buy btw? (not even sure how much the 1.2 engine holds!)

How much do you and Mark want for doing the work and covering fuel? if you dont wanna say on here drop me a pm :) just so he knows for Sunday.

Anyone know how much oil it holds? then I will just double it and buy it with the parts tomorrow/Friday

And how much coolant is needed?

So get 8 litres of 10w40 semi synthetic? and 5 litre of coolant/antifreeze/what ever its called? :D

Oh, its just because there is a hole in the sump so all oil has gone, so will need to fill it to flush it? or am I missing something? lol

Nah, he only found out about the hole the day the car started playing up :(

Away to pick up all the parts and fluids on the way to work :D

You guys got satnav? I can either find his postcode for you or meet you as you come into Macduff?

yup, we have 2 sat navs and i think another 2 if we count the ones on the phones :p between 4 satnavs we should be able to find most places :)

postcode would be best if possible tbh :)

I can beat that :p I had 2 sat navs in my car (one new one old) and one on my phone for months :D lol

I am waiting for him to text back with his address and post code so will pass it on as soon as I know it.

Picked up everything on the way to work including 5 litres of oil (he claims the engine only holds 2.something litre?) and 5 litre of coolant :) hopefully the weather lets up a bit!!

the heads been skimmed yeah?

so you should have ready to fit....

1 skimmed cylinder head
1 Head gasket kit containing 1 rocker cover gasket and other various seals and gaskets
1 sump
1 tube of silicone sealant (i'll bring up a tube incase we run short)
coolant
oil (car's max capacity is 3. something litres but the best way to do it i find is top up to just over 2 litres then leave for a bit then fill the rest from what you get on the dipstick, much more accurate than lumping oil in regardless)

also

do you have a timing belt or belt kit? may aswell change it if the belts age is unknown or suspect condition

We are using the head from Abyss's spare engine (spoke to him about it already)

Picked up the head gasket kit, sump, instant gasket (presume its the same as silicone seal?), oil, coolant, timing belt kit (just the belt and a pensioner).

I didn't get a thermostat or water pump though :(
