It has just been pointed out to me that I may not have been clear
The car is in Macduff and since the sump is spilling what ever oil is put into it, it would be easiest and safest to do the work in Macduff?
Can a car be towed with no oil in it? as long as its in neutral the engine wont be moving at all right?

leave it in neutral. but please gaffa tape the hole or something you dont want some biker to go the wrong way up on it.

Aye should be ok, as if the clutch is disengeaged then there is no drive to the engine.

call ive do ne in the past is bin bag over the sump gaffa taped up ALOT and its never leaked. but again drain all the oil to begin with then your only stopping dribbles anyways
All the oil is out (as far as I know) its been sitting at the garage with a pan under it since being diagnosed, so he will have to get it back the house to work on it.
I will go out before anyone gets there on Sunday and help him move it, so will plug the hole with something and get it back to the house.
If its Mark and Abyss that is coming, how much do you guys want for your time/petrol what ever?

Next problem . . . no where is open to skim the head on Sunday . . . ideas anyone?
I have told him to phone the garage its sitting at and ask how much they want to take the head out and mark the timing BUT I can see them telling him to gtfo since he told them he will do the work him self lol

Yip that's most likely. Tbh mate I'm nae sure what'd be best. No point rushing the repair without a skimmed head though.
Is no need to mark the timing, seriously, take the head off yourself!skim it then get someone to come up and put it bck together!
There is not much anyone can do without getting the head skimmed ....
unless some one has a spare head ,, could send them money , they they could come up with the skimmed head and then swop the skimmed head for the one with the Hg gone

Its not a problem any more the garage is going to remove the head for him BUT its £90 :| pretty sure it is like an hours labour? lol
So now the head will be skimmed and at his for Sunday so all that needs done is, sump, head put back in, timing done, flush old gunk out, fill with new stuff and sit back with a tea?
