Hi im after some advise ... i have mk2b 3dr 1.2 8v active sport what would you recommend to get more bhp i find its quite sluggish and needs more pep... any advise would be greatly appriciated ? thanks for reading

tbhe 1.2 8v is a little gutless at motorway speed's

however off the mark they should be quiet quick

only a few seconds in1st gear gets you to 30mph with ease

As for getting more power - you can probably straggle 10bhp more out of it, but thats about it
There not monster machine engines, there peppy for city driving

Ziggy

I have a 16 valve auto and I'm amazed how fast it is so not sure what your expecting from a 1.2. It maybe that you have to change your driving style to keep up momentum rather than accelerate from a standing start or are we talking overtaking? I changed all my oils (gearbox/engine) and the filters and had the water pump and belt changed and the whole back 2 sections of the exhaust which made it much faster and smoother. But the change in the way I drove this compared to my 2l Rover made much more difference than any of the other stuff.

I had another punto same engine size etc but was written off (some numpty drove into back of it whielst it was parked on side of the road) but seemed to be quicker than this one, b4 the puntos i had 1.0 suzuki swift so my previous cars were not exactly speedy. Im not so much looking for a higher top end speed as i dont do alot of motorway driving it just seems as tho the acceleration isnt quite as it should be?

Don't assume 2 identical cars will perform exactly the same, we are talking about Fiats here lol also as we become more used to driving our perception changes. The first car I ever drove was a mk3 cortina estate when I was 15 and that seemed really fast but if I drove it now I would think I could walk faster. But changing all the oils and plugs etc will make difference

Its had new spark plugs and ht leads and air filter its due a service so maybe once oil etc been changed it will run better ☺

Mine likes the more expensive decent brand fuel as well, but you have to keep using it for it to help. My Rover on the over hand doesn't like the expensive one, result lol

i drove a 26000 punto for 6 months and it had no go at all
just been out in a 98000 miler and it pulls like a big boy steam engine
guess the low miler got bore wash from lots of short journeys

so it all depends on compression

Maybe im expecting too much from the wee girl lol, ill try the fuel thing i can usually get 2 weeks out of a tank so it shouldnt be too much of a shock to my purse (hopefully) would it make much difference that i rarely do long journeys? I'm a home carer and work locally to where i live so between my visits is generally between .5-4 miles so i have new break pads n tyres every 12 months due to all the start/stopping.... maybe i need to take it for blast up motorway clean any 'cobwebs'??

New brake pads and tyres every year? Are they actually worn out or does this get done anyway? I'm not sure you wouldn't be better off in a new "just add fuel" Peugeot considering what you do for a living. Cars hate just short journeys, go somewhere a long way away every now and then at some spped to clean out the cobwebs and charge the battery. Have a weekend away somewhere nice ;)

i used to drive my husband too and from work then work lil further away from home hence the excessive mileage but ive since swapped companies and now only work in a 5 mile radius of home. i was putting 20k+ mileage a year on previous cars my poor lil suzuki had 150k hence the new tyres n break pads on it lol i was going thru full tank n half a week but now a full tank will last 2 weeks working closer to home n my husband now drives himself :) to nearest town is about 12 miles and biggest road to get there is dual carriage way. i think ill get it serviced and take it for a blast along the motor way give it a good run

punto i have now ive had roughly 18 months max it had 42,000 miles when i brought it n it now has 68,000 on it well lil over but that gives an idea into the mileage but have to admit only swapped jobs this jan and i think ive only put 2000 on it in 4 months so i guess thats not too bad?

I used to work for an agency that supplied carers (I was in a different dept) it's a hard job and lots of short visits and quick drives to the next one. Some of the carers used the underground or buses instead as it was cheaper, not sure you have that option down south ;)

Perhaps your a prime candidate for an electric car?

Lol elec car prob got more 'grunt' than my punto ha ha ha, its not an easy job by any means and cuz we race around we do use more fuel than is economical . Buses etc round here do run every 20 min to southampton city centre but its soooo expensive its laughable! But fortunately enough my calls are very close together which is why i thought the car was slowish on takin off as i only really do short journeys in quite heavy school run traffic so its very stop/start all day

I used to go all the way around the M25 to do my Italian tune until I realised if I drive full throttle everywhere it does the same thing lol
