Being a new owner of a punto and still learning to drive I am having a bit off difficulty with the clutch (typical learner!). I know that eventually I will get the hang of it but I was wondering if anyone has any tips for first pulling away and doing 3 point turns etc. Any help would be appreciated! :)

Hey yes I have been driving my punto for a year now the clutch is a bit different to normal cars I have found that over time just get use to it just gentle and slow you will get it mate x

Your not alone there! Im on my 3rd punto and clutches compleatly different on each. Just get used to the bite point with no throttle, and if you have an empty area, try just setting off on the clutch and going up through the gears with no throttle, practice this will help your clutch controll endless! Good luck!

revs up to 2000 and lift clutch slowly.
if you want to learn some clutch control find a big flat carpark or ind estate
park up, press clutch and select first then WITHOUT touching the accelerator lift clutch slowly till car moves off.
cars with ecu injection control dont rely on throttle or carb settings they use a computer to do all that, they will try to maintain 880 rev tickover as soon as clutch starts to bite and revs start to drop the computer will increase the fuel and adjust throttle body untill revs are back at 880 rpm so you will get to the point that the car is moving , your foot is off all the pedals. if you have a long enough carpark / road you can actualy go through 1st , 2nd, and into 3rd without touching throttle or stalling it.

hope this helps

Jon

I'd get someone else to drive the car, make sure that the clutch is OK.

But. generally, practice, practice, practice.

Driving is hard because you've got to do so many things at the same time, but you'll get there in the end.
Both of my parents have drove it and the clutch is fine, just need to get used to it :)

Thanks will give this a go tomorrow! :)

not clutch but power steering
try not to do too much lock to lock in small spaces as it trips the electric power steering out on mk2 specifically to the point the motors completely fail
ive had 2 older customers do this in the last 12 months and i guess a learner could do it too:)

Have you asked your instructor? That's what we're here for.
Hopefully he/she is teaching you to set the gas before you find the clutch bite point, as jon1612 says, not as bennycovelly says.
Ask your instructor if they will show you how to move away on your own car, 10 minutes at start of lesson, then back to the school car for the rest.

EllisVarnes the man to listen too here me thinks

Ive not driven a petrol for a few years now diesels have more torque to pull away and I tend to abuse it by just dropping the clutch and letting the engine do the work
