Uno Help

I have a 1993 Uno, 1 ltr that suddenly needs a new gearbox. Will I find one?
Would a Punto one fit?

Depends if your car was made late enough to have the later style gearbox as used by the Punto. If you have a "push down to select reverse" gearstick, you might be in luck. Choose a Punto or other box wisely as there are many different ratio sets. If you post a picture of the gearbox up I can confirm the gearbox model.

Alternatively, I have an Uno gearbox you could buy. PM me if you are in the UK and can collect.

I'm in North Walsham, Norfolk and my box is starting to make strange noises underload (has plenty of oil in it) and crunches in 3 of the 5 gears lol.

Wd that mean the car also has to have the FIRE engine, or was the Punto type box fitted to the earlier engine - like in Punto ELX90?

When I said "later style" I meant "later Uno style" as fitted to most Puntos throughout their lifespan. It is only the GT and diesel Mk1 Puntos that didn't use this C514 gearbox, so yes, a 90 has a C514. Of course if you have a FIRE engine in your Uno or whatever target car, you would ideally want to find a C514 box that was mated to a FIRE engine as every engine block type has a different bell housing to mate to it. You can swap the bellhousings, but that requires a FULL rebuild of the gearbox. Given how common these boxes are, it isn't worth it IMO.

A1: Yes.

A2: It isn't unique across all the model ranges, but it does marry this style box to a SOHC (Lampredi) block like the 1301, 1372, 1581, etc.

A3: I didn't say which gearboxes Unos had specifically. I was talking about Punto Mk1s. Only Unos made in 1993 or later had a C514. That was all non-turbo petrol models. Diesel and Turbos had the C510 throughout their life.
