Hi Everyone,

I am hoping that somebody can help me out. I woke up to a flat battery on my Fiat Panda this morning, I left the radio on!!! I have sorted the battery but the oil light is staying on. I checked the oil and it was a little on the low side so I put some oil in and the light still stayed on. I was advised to take it for a run and the light has still stayed on. The engine sounds fine. I have checked the oil since being home and it looks fine. Has anybody got any ideas? I really would appreciate any advice. Thanks Sarah x

Hi Sarah,
I take it the battery now has a decent charge / voltage again?,

That should not really have an effect on the "oil-level" ,
some of these little foibles are driven by sensors and the ECU ( car's brain)
A quick and cheap fix is to disconnect the battery overnight, then reconnect in the morning,
let the car warm-up then drive as normal,
It's not too scientific,, BUT can often clear such weird issues,

Are you SURE it's the engine oil light..?? didn't disturb anything while recharging the battery..??,

If the light stays on when the engines running , there IS a possibility that oil is NOT circulating in the engine.. , so It would be best to have it checked over by a knowledgeable person,

good luck , and let us know what happens,
Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Thank you for your reply I really do appreciate it. It is definitely the oil light. Is it dangerous to drive? Thanks Sarah

Hi Sarah,
what model / engine / year..??,
as I said,
it's possible that your oil pump / or similar, has packed-up and therefore your engine would be at risk..!!

I suspect it's an electrical gremlin due to the flat battery.. , but A dry engine could mean a HUGE bill..!! I personally wouldn't risk it..!! - try "battery disconnected " for 2 -hours - should be enough,

do you have someone who could check it over - or call the AA / RAC for you,
Charlie
