Hi all (and Merry Christmas). This is my first post here and I apologise if this has popped up before. I assume it has but my search proved largely fruitless.

I am seriously considering getting a Grande Punto for my next car however I'm getting a bit confused about the numerous 'versions' of the car. There seems to be the Active, Dynamic, Eleganza and various sport suffix models. I'm currently looking at the 1.4 Dynamic Sport but I don't know what jump up this actually is from the Dynamic (if at all).

Would it be possible for someone to provide me with some kind of hierarchy of the various models and if anyone has any tips on which ones to avoid/favour. Thanks all.

On the 1.2 version the Dynamic has alloys and air con which the Active doesn't as standard. Not sure about sport models.

This may give you a little help mate:

They're just different levels of trim on the car, for example an 'active' model has the least amount of extras and interiour trim where as the active sport adds AC and side skirts if I remember correct.
The main differences are stuff like leather seats, arm rest, AC, cruise control, side skirts, alloy wheels, 17 inch alloys, leather steering wheel, more airbags,

I can't think of anymore :p

Excluding special editions, the core range goes like this from most basic to most extravagant:

Active
Active sport (adds 15inch alloys, spoiler and side skirts)
Dynamic (as active plus side and curtain airbags, body colour door handles, air con etc)
Dynamic sport (not sure what kit this has, think it might have been a special edition?).
Sporting / eleganza (two top trims with different focuses, i.e. One is sporty the other luxury. Sporting has skirts, spoiler, side skirts, 17inch alloys, sports seats, air con while eleganza does without the skirts and spoiler, has 16inch wheels, climate control and a few other bits)

Any references you read on here to m-jets or t-jets are types of engine not trim (but usually in sporting trim).

If you are after a nice 'normal' punto, the 1.4 8v dynamic strikes a good balance of decent kit (air con and 6 air bags), sensible running costs and reasonable performance.

Sounds spot on

Dynamic sport is Active Sport + Dynamic. My sisters first car was a red dynamic sport 1.4 8v. Nice car

Look for a 'GP' trim level, that's what I got
I think that was a replacement for active sport in the latter years wasn't it? Think it might be a bit tight on kit if it is. Might as well go for the higher spec of the dynamic IMO.

Nahh, I've got a GP trim level and it has everything on it. I think the GP was the last trim before the evo so fiat just chucked everything that was lying in the warehouse on it

But, judging by the cars on autotrader, there is no air con?

No, no air con, but I've got skydome roof, alloys, spoiler, fogs, hill-holder etc
IMO it's very well equipped

Have you had the car from new or could they all have been factory fitted optional extra's that the 1st owner wanted? Seems strange not to include A/C or climate if its such a high spec that's all.

The GP trim was a new trim level for the S2 cars that sat below Sporting.

Think the difference between GP and Sporting was no cruise control, 16 inch alloys and a different interior with either the starjet or 1.3 mjet engine.

If yours was one of the last they could well have added extras in the factory to get rid of parts, which is fairly common.
