A week ago just pullng into a garage and the gearbox faliure warning came on.
I drove in normaly.Stopped, tanked and set off and all was well.
Ive done about 250 miles since with no probs.
Today after pulling off the M! it came on again and all seemed well,it changed down ok but I had to change up manualy.
The warning is still on but it drives ok apart from I have to change up manualy.
I know a few on here have had problems and wondered if the door flapping routine would work(I know I can try it but Ive 200 miles to do tomorrow and dont want to risk a breakdown miles from home).
Anyone any experience of the same and do you think it could just be that connector under the bonnet playing up?

I have had simmilar problem.
Mine ABARTH SeleSpeed would get stucked in (some) gear while in AUTO mode.
Than I would switch it to MANUAL mode and everything would work nicely.
It would happend almost every day, but sometimes there were no problems at all!?
I find out that my gearbox is having an issue with switching in REVERSE gear, and shifting it back in first.(but sometimes with a delay of few minutes!?)
Those were my problems I have experiencing.
I went to a nearest FIAT dealers workshop to examine the issues.
They hooked it on a Computer & have had replace a thing called something like "break (pedal) switch"- & guess what - NO PROBLEMS ANY MORE mate.
COST OF SERVICE 10-20€ with work included!

Good Luck

Just waved it goodbye on the back of a fiat recovery vehicle.
Theyre going to stick it on the machine and see whats what, and do the steering recall and sort out the AC at the same time.
Phoned them this morning at 8 and theyve already been and got it and said I can have a courtesy car at 10 quid a day on Tue when theyve one in.
So service lookinggood as of now,Ill await the results of the test.

Yes it is them and theyve been spot on.
Hes just phoned to say it was the brake pedal switch, hes turned off the service light(was done by a mate a fiat mechanic but he couldnt turn off the light) and hes going to check on any recalls I might have missed.
So Im having the broken AC pipe fixed while its there and a recharge.
Most impressed with the service, only thing is at such short notice he didnt have a courtesy car for me though he apologised.
If only they were all like thsi.
Ill reccomend them for sure.

it was the brake switch on my car.
fiat did not find this out for 2 weeks of looking at the car every day.
car thinks the brakes are on so will not change up.
the abs will give up next its the same problem.
