Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with my Fiat Tipo 2019 that I’m struggling to get properly diagnosed, and I’d really appreciate some advice.
The car makes a deep groaning / “uhhh uhhh” noise (not a high-pitched squeal) when:
Important details:
What has already been checked / replaced:
Some mechanics say it could be:
The noise sounds metallic and heavy, almost like friction under load, not clicking.
Has anyone experienced something similar on a Fiat Tipo (or similar Fiat models)?
Any ideas on what component typically causes this kind of noise only in reverse and when steering under load?
Audio is attached.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The car makes a deep groaning / “uhhh uhhh” noise (not a high-pitched squeal) when:
- reversing
- turning the steering fully left or right
- especially when going uphill or on a slope (for example entering a garage)
Important details:
- The noise is much more noticeable in reverse
- Sometimes it doesn’t happen at all, other times it’s very clear
- Braking performance feels normal
- The car was purchased used recently, and the noise was already present during the test drive (I initially thought it was hill-hold)
What has already been checked / replaced:
- Front brake calipers were removed, lubricated and reinstalled (guides were reportedly too tight)
- Brake discs and pads were inspected
- One wheel bearing was replaced
- Engine mounts were slightly loosened and realigned
- The issue still persists
Some mechanics say it could be:
- brake caliper dragging
- internal CV joint (inner driveshaft joint)
- wheel bearing under load
- drivetrain or suspension component under reverse load
The noise sounds metallic and heavy, almost like friction under load, not clicking.
