Hi everyone . Just got myself my first car, punto sx 75, for £900 :D .

As a student, haven't got much money to spend, but am looking at upgrading the HU and getting some 6x9's, mainly because they're all i can afford at the moment.

Looking at getting the alpine HU Alpine HU . Does this look ok, considering i really doubt il be able to ever afford getting an amp or sub. It will just be powering the 6x9's.

My second problem is that i was going to get some the the xplod 6x9, but after reading around on here have only heard bad things about them. Could anyone reccomend me some decent quality 6x9 for £50 or under? Tight budget :(. Basicially trying to get the best 6x9's for my money but i really haven't got a clue what im lookin at.

Any help guys much appreciated!!!
p.s. Now i got my car u'll see me on here much more, lucky ppl :p

Hello and welcome to the forum,

the HU you have chosen looks, good, should sound sweet, as for 6x9's i havent heard any bad things about sony ones but there is probably better, have a look and listen in halfords i reckon trawl the internet (like eBay) for some bargains!

good luck

Infinity 6x9's?

Ive got Pioneer ones and theyre great, only cost me £30 too half price, check on ebay for some great deals.

I remember going into Halfrauds 'cause they have the big walls of speakers to try them out and I agree, the sonys were cack, nothing to them atall, the infinitys sounded the best to be, I dont know if they were the high end kappa ones or not but they definetly sounded the best out of what was there, thats including alpine etc, and theyre cheap.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Might have to take a trip up to halfords then. My friend had a pair of the xplod 220w peak and once the volume went up the slightest they sounded crap. Will check out the infinitys and pioneers while i'm there.

Might be a stupid question, but i'm assuming the HU will fit in as standard, in that i don't need to buy anything else to make it fit in properly. Any ideas?

Just found these speakers, look quite good specs, can anyone say if they have heard good or bad reviews on them.

Kenwood speakers

Cheers for your help!

do not get any cheap ones off ebay that say they are 2000 watt or what ever they sound rubbish, buy a WELL KNOWN GOOD make not shark, splx, and some american makes off ebay, there all rubbish, i like sony ones much much better than my shark 1200 watt shark ones i had but go to audio shop and test them all.

I am going to go to halfords and some other local audio shops across the weekend i think.

Are there any named brands that are known for being good?? Might give me an idea of whats good and whats not.

The way the 6x9 sounds is all up to your preferance. i could say a few good ones but it depends how you like your music.

Some great for bass others mid other volume. its really personal preferance on what you prefer it to sound like. Theres some really nice sounding kenwood ones i've heard. Alpine stuff is pretty much always cracking gear.

So is pioneer stuff but just go have a listen to them any decent audio shop will be willing to let you listen to them to get an idea of the sound they have before you buy them.

And about subs and amps can all be had fairly cheap now for fairly good gear. One of the promo packs on the same site

sub amp 6x9's

6x9's eh?

Well, someone is selling a good set of Pioneers in the classifieds but the Infinitys you often see for £50 in Halfrauds are just a tad better IMO, I own said Pioneers BTW.

You won't get better for that kind of money, also avoid speakers with tiny magnets.

No comments about the wiring kids!

Would you say the Infinitys from Halfords are worth getting (the £50 ones)? I've heard a lot of good things about Infinity. Should be going out on Sunday up the shops, got exams and work until then :(

not for £50 considering you can get them on Ebay for 30, well I suppose it might be worth it as you have to factor P&P into the Ebay ones, but have a look on ebay anyway, might get the kappa ones for same price.
