Hey,

I'm wondering how easy it is to spray part of a panel... how do you get the areas of laquer to match up? As there will inevitably be an edge?

Also, what body filler would people recommend and what primer to cover it...

Cheers,

Ed

Isopon P38 is one of the best fillers on the market.... easy to sand, and gives a great smooth finish.

As for primer, depends on what colour your car is, as there are different primers for different top coats...

Hellfrauds sell majority of colours in the Fiat range, and can also mix colours they don't have on the shelf..

My car is "nero black", that one-colour black. Out of interest, why does that make a difference to primers?

a basic grey primer will do for you, its just metallics you need to be weary of in the finish when using primers.

i find Hycote Grey Primer easy to spray and lands on evenly. it will be in a blue tin and have a blackish escort cosworth on the tin.

also mask up around the area and prime it dont prime bang on to the mask tape just so it kind of fades out before it hits the tape and then remove the mask and amke a bigger area then even layers and sand down each one flat with warm water then lacquer, more lacquer better result you need to really really polish / t cut hard to get the patches the blend in body shops used the electric buffers . just rub till ur pinkys hurt!!

listen mate i wouldnt bother doing it your self, dont think im being funny but you obviusly dont know much about spraying and would ruin ure care, you cant really just spray 1 bit it usualy has to be blew in etc. @paul not to sound like a dick mate but thats an acrylic based primer and isnt rate cleva if you are going to do these things out of cans you need to get proper primers and it depends on the colour and efffect you are spraying as to which primer should be used,

mate id just save up and get it done proper it will just make ure car worth less and look crap if you try it ure self with no experience.

i know people are just trying to be helpful but you should try and discourage people with no priar experiance trying to spray there own cars as we are supposed to be a group of (freinds) if you like that share a commen interest (brav's) and its a bit irrisponsable telling people where to get things etc if at first proper advice isnt given.

sos to be the dick mate but i think you would thank me for it in the long run if the spraying whent wrong lol.

erm no donny it isnt acrylic, i sprayed a full body kit but it was costing me more moeny in paint and lacquer so i got it done at a body shop. it isnt a metallic coulor so blendign isnt that hard if it is a small patch it will be easy. and i have got experiance in sprayin etc come have a look in my shed i have resprayed my bike my midid motor my xbox started doing bits in the car and not 1 defect is on any. its all down to time taken and preparation.

if its a small patch do it but rember polish it really good.

Nah mate don't worry, i appreciate all opinions

edit: i've got to be honest though i'd like to give it a try myself first, i'm not down much if i do it myself n then i have to get it done at a shop. but i'd like the experience. After all, i had never changed a cambelt on a car before; and i did mine with no problems 6 months ago.

I'd go for it if i was you! Just research lots about spraying techiniques on the web, but i'd say do an entire panel. I did all my kit and the rear quarter that stretches over both doors, but make sure you wait two-three weeks before cutting it back otherwise you'll cut straight through the paint. Also if you want paint phone auto paint st helens (you can find them on the web)they will tell you exactly what paint and primer to use and they are very reasonable in prices.
