Changing gear as steadily go worse these past few weeks since a new cable was fitted,
in spring it's a new clutch but now it's the cable that's in need of adjustment as its getting bad now selecting reverse without crunching

Never making an adjustment before I was told there's a big plastic nut with a locking nut behind, but looking under the bonnet there is the big plastic nut and a round type bar behind I can by hand turn the plastic nut is this right or should it be locked?

All I would like to know is what is the process of adjusting the cable having no experience it's hard to know and I wouldn't like to make it worse but as I said it needs to be done as it's getting really bad :bang:
Thanks in advance Ray

Thanks Benjammo,
so I can just keep screwing clockwise by hand it in untill I can easily get all gears ?

Hi mate

If its anything like a cinquecento then it should have a locking nut too. Maybe this is why its getting worse. Ive just done my clutch and the cable needed adjusting as the pedal was too high...

Im no expert though so maybe worth waiting for conformation....

If the adjustment is getting worse it could be the cable beginning to give up one strand at a time.

When turning the big plastic nut, make sure the inner cable isn't turning too, you need to stop the cable turning while you turn the nut, or you are changing nothing.

Cheers

So turn by hand a couple of clicks at a time (1 click = 1/2 turn) before trying it,
is that right ?

and When turning the big plastic nut, make sure the inner cable isn't turning
How do I stop the cable turning while I turn the nut ?
