help please

i am posting this for a friend who has a 1.4 bravo.
the car has started making a quite servere rattling noise from the top of the engine which sounds like the sound of good old knackered tappits.................anyone got any suggestions what it may be and is it still ok to drive.....i know this is a bit of a lame description but we are just after a bit of advice.

the oil pipe/gully to the cam has a tendancy to block on the 1.4 starving the cam and tapets of oil get it checked out quickly or its going to be expensive
