Hi guys.

So i changed the Left rear brake shoe kit on my Cinquecento 899c 98 together with the wheel cylinder (purge it well as well) . Took me quite a while.. Those springs really are tricky.. But after everything is in place i couldn't put back the old Drum case.. I tried every way.. And the only way I could was to sand the new shoe lining a bit.. But it fits just barely as I could put it back and screw the wheels.. But even with the emergency brake all the way down.. I can still feel some resistance on the wheel.. That doesn't spin freely.

My question is.. Is any kind of adjuster for the shoes? Or is just the case of sanding the shoes a bit more?

You can see on the photos the new brake shoe kit (where the drum doesn't fit) and the other rear side (Right) of the untouched brake shoe kit just for comparison.

Thank you Guys I really appreciate it.

It is a friction adjuster.
You simply lever the shoes in until the drum only just clears.

But if there is a lip on the drum, you need new drums.

Thank you very much David.

And where can I locate that friction adjuster?

Sorry David, English is not my first language, what do you mean by a lip on the drum?

The friction adjuster is the large silver disc on each shoe.
To adjust, you simply lever the shoe inwards with a screwdriver.

The clearance between the shoe and the drum needs to be VERY small.

Ok, i will try it tomorrow and see.. If the drum still touches the shoe, do you recommend sanding it?

I even though of releasing the tensioner of the Emergency Brake to the lower setting to see if that would "push"/retract the shoes more to the centre by moving this piece (on the back, that looks to be the one responsible for the E-Brake) .. But that didn't do much.. ??

I'm desperate guys!

So i was able to put the Left drum on with the new shoes.. Don't aak me how.. Just fiddling and fiddling with the shoes position and a bit of sanding..

But the Right side i simply can't.. It just doesn't want to fit!.. The E-Brake is all the way down, I still haven't purged the wheel cylinder (has i was wanting to fit everything first..)

Any tips guys?

You can see the old in comparison with the new one (fitted), the pads are slightly slimmer than the new ones.. First i thought it was from the 20 years of wear, but now i don't know.. I don't want to put the old ones as the springs are a nightmare..

Anyone know any trick?

It sounds like your missing something.
1. Make sure you have handbrake off (wheels choked, car in gear).
2. Brake master cylinder refill cap is off (if your not sure where it is see left hand side of attached picture)
This will allow you to push in the brake cylinder as pictured on the right hand side of the picture. then the brake drum will fit.

If you are sanding down the brake pads there is no point changing to new ones as you are wearing them down when your fitting them(n)

The shoes can usually be slid up and down a little to centralise them
if they are a little to far one way or the other the drum will be hard to fit.
This is only a very small amount but it does not take much.

I've finally after a week on the stand to fit the drum in..

Solution was to keep sanding it slightly and to veryyy precisely adjust it up.. Down.. Left.. Right.. A real pain! But was able to put the wheel.. The wheel spins like 98% freely as I can ear some bit scratches the shoe.. But i tough well.. On the road it will wear out..

Took it for a spin and drives well and breaks well.

But now I have another question :

Now i have the brake light always on on my dashboard.. I did indeed tighten the Emergency Brake up to 2-3 ratchets and purged the wheel cylinders after changing them and top up the brake oil with dot 4 up to almost up..

What do you guys think the reason of the light? To tight E-Brake or needs more DOT 4 or something to do with sensors on the reservoir?
