Hi,

I've just fitted a new wiper linkage to my partners Punto Mk2b after one of the original linkages failed. The problem is now that the wiper motor appears to be in some kind of calibration mode and is not self parking correctly. When you push the stalk upwards instead of doing a full sweep of the window it simply stops mid window when you release the stalk. Also on the intermittent setting it completes a couple of few sweeps of the window each time before it pauses and each time it parks, its in one of 4 different positions. I'm guessing I'm missed something obvious, if someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
Kev

did you get it new?

the arm (between motor & links) should be in 9'oclock position(towards drivers side indicator repeater) at rest when fitting otherwise you got wrong motor/linkage assembly.

Yes its brand new and looks identical to the original linkage/motor, it's labelled WM511B (came in a magneti branded bag).

I've checked and the motor arm is at 9 oclock when the wipers are sat at the bottom of the window. One thing I did notice was that after fitting it the clock reset to 00:00.

I guess I'll have to give the company I bought it from a call, maybe its a faulty unit :(

I seem to remember we've had a problem in the past with some wiper linkages where I work.

If I'm correct, on the MK2b the internal design of the motor and wiring layout is different to the MK2's and causes it to park incorrectly if the wrong version is fitted.

Is your unit definitely for a MK2b?

yea i had one today wrongly boxed pre face lift and face lift have different wiring set up so it will act weirdly

i bet if you turn ign off and on it runs for a few seconds then stops randomly
when the switch is at off

Thanks all, thats exactly what is happening. I guess I'll have to return it and get it swapped. If I had to I guess I could just swap the motor from the original broken linkage, if it's just the electronics that is different.

yea you could but that means having to know were to set the motor up in relation to everything it's a bit difficult if you have nothing to go on or look at
