Hi,

I have an N reg brava, with no service history, it has 74K on clock, what should i be looking at replacing on it soon??

Thanks

check out the Haynes manual, but don't forget the cambelt etc needs doing or it'll be expensive!

I bought my P reg Bravo with 65,000 on the clock and it has now done 80,000 and this what I have had to replace.

All 4 tyres (£120 budget, although I bought performance ones later)
Clutch £100
1 Suspension Damper (Although I replaced all 4 and got 4 new springs, so these might have gone as well)(£30 for 1)
Full braking system (nearly, I had to change both discs, both pads, both drums and both shoes) (can't remember price)
New exhaust backbox (£100 inc fitting)
A few exhaust leaks filled (free)
Rear wiper fixed (free)

All in all not to bad, nothing I wouldn't expect on a 7 yr old car.

I have 4 budget tyres for sale with 8mm of tread left if anyone wants them.

Gaz

Hope I helped

Hi,

Thanks for that,

i know the cambelt should be replaced asap, does anyone know roughly how much this will cost me? being a female i think garages try and rip me off

Heather

yeah - unfortunately some girls do get ripped off at garages, try taking a bloke with you.

here's some prices off the bravo-guide:
THE FIAT BRAVO/A CAMBELT GUIDE

"The operation of the cambelts on the Fiat Bravo/a range is critical. All of the engine units are "unsafe", meaning that should the cambelt or tensioner fail, the valves will come into contact with the pistons and then everything else. Engine re-builds are expensive, time consuming and your fault!

The recomendation is to change the belt at 72,000 miles OR 5 years, however there are other factors to consider. If you are a thrash it till it bleeds driver then it will go earlier, short journeys will take its toll but also age will as well, so if the car is getting towards 5 years old, it is worth getting the belt changed regardless of mileage.

Fiat dealership prices are circa the following, HGT £590, 1.9TD (100) £125, 1.8 £135, 1.6 £115 and 1.2 £155. Please contact them to get an exact quotation for you vehicle, especially if you bought the car from them as certain discounts are available.

Lastly, you are not covered outside of warranty if your cambelt fails, even if it is less than the 72,000 recomendation and only then if the tensioner fails. You have been warned."

"All of the engine units are "unsafe""

You will actually find that 99% of engines with more than 2 valves per cyl and pretty much all diesels fall into the mythical 'unsafe' category.

Heck even the A series in the mini was 'unsafe' if the timing chain failed (which they did on some).

to be honest thats not too bad, just make sure their work is of a good standard and that if it breaks because of their shodiness, they will repair the engine ;)
I got told by my main fiat dealership that it will be circa £600 and can only be done with a major service at 6 years 72000 miles. to my response of "what happens if it breaks before then?" they shrugged.
no thanks fiat ;)
My car is on 24k but is nearing 5yrs old.

Hi,

It's a 1.4, and i've just called my fiat garage and they quoted me £185 for the cambelt and tensioners (spl?) fully fitted and 1 year warranty, not bad at all.

damn it, I must be blind in my old age ;)
surely with any cengine whether it safe or not it cant be good for the belt to snap ;)
