Help Needed!!!

Hi all, I have a 1997 HGT and need some help.

Last week a noise came from where the drive belts are, sort of like the noise of a dodgy fanbelt and also a little smoke. Who knows what is wrong??

Some people have said its the drive belt pully/tensioner and others have said it the alternator, has anyone else experienced this problem, cause any help would be most appreciated.

I dont really wanna drive the car in that condition and am fed up of seeing it sitting on the drive.

Cheers people!!!!

Sounds remarkably familiar mate.

Has the battery light come on and stayed on on the dash? If yes then the alt is shot (like mine a few weeks ago). :(

If not, does the battery light come on at all? If no then bulb is probably shot and possibly alternator. :(

If none of the above then possibly over-tightened belt?

For any of these you need to get it looked at by a mechanic now. If the cambelt goes so does the engine. if the fanbelt goes it will likely as not take the cambelt as well and so in turn the engine. :(

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it may not be serious. If you ignore it though it will most likely end up being serious.

Having said all that though, welcome to the forum fellow HGT owner! :)

I'm sure it will be fine. :)

Cheers for your help.

I will have to get it looked at, cause the battery light doesnt come on. Just one thing after another with my HGT.

Cheers again, I appreciate it.

Always a pleasure chap.

What are the "other" problems? Can we help?

Always something wrong with the beast. The injector light kept coming on, thus making the car misfire and judder, so I changed all 5 and guess what, still does it!!

May be worth getting a diagnostic as well then. Whereabouts in the country are you? Angel Tuning do siagnostics for around £25 with most of that refunded if there are no faults reported.

Nige brings his diag kit to meets now as well so may be the perfect excuse to get out of the house. :)

Next meet is next Sunday. Only the computer can erase the code so it may be that you have fixed the fault.

where is the meet then?? Im from surrey.

Had it on the rollong road in march and they said that everything was running fine, so Im pretty stumped!

its in warickshire mate. have a dig about in the last 20 odd posts, national fiat day...

Don't get carried away with this new found skill for organising Dan. :)

I'm taking over. mwahahahahaha.
Regarding the meet on the 20th, where are you staying overnight as you are at the eastern meet the night before?

If only I could, going to see the chilli peppers.

Thats a real shame though, never seem to get the chance to go to fiat meets, wanna show the motor off a bit.

Check the events listing on the Bravo-Guide Rocco (or should I say "Italian-Stallion79? ;) "Adriaaaaannn!!" - Sorry, couldn't resist! :)).

All this years events are posted so you can get planning. Be good to see another HGT or 2 out and about.

So what kind of mods have u done to yours then? what bhp u running?

Thats fair enough mate, have u every thought of giving it that little bit more under the bonnet?

Thought about but thought better of it. Nige can't Angel Tune them and I wouldn't trust anyone else to touch it (not that I trust that Spanner-Monkey either!! - Only joking Nige ;))

Going to have to insure it for company use soon and my company don't allow mods so.......

Not that I would anyway. Love it as it is.

Maybe a strut brace, better brakes and an antracite refurb for the alloys.

Looks very nice!!!!

I got my 147 to 166bhp and have stopped there. Sometimes I think that is why things are going wrong with it.

There u go, live and learn. Still one sexy machine though!!
