My Son has just passed his test and got a 1999 Brava 80SX on the road.

He was out in it this evening and his sub was playing up, his brother took a look, in the boot a wire had come off, which he replaced. and still couldn't get it working, he looked under the bonnet at the main fuse for the amp, and that had blown. He replaced the fuse and the sub and hifi gear was all working. He drove from there just round the corner and the 6x9's stopped working, but the sub was still working, at this point he stopped and turned the stero off. When he pulled away again he noticed the speedo was stopped at 8mph and the rev counter is at 2000rpm, they are both fixed and don't move, the fuel and temp gauges have both dropped to 0, everything else seems to work ok, the car runs, there are no fault lights.

Any suggestions would be very gratefully recieved.
My idea at the moment is panel regulator?

Or do you think the panel is knackered.

could be a dead fuse or overloaded relay. when you turn the car off do they go back to the normal position?

No, it does not return when switched off, they are stuck in the same position all the time, whether it is on or off.

I have had a look at the wiring diagram in the Haynes book, the earth point E7 is common to all those things and nothing else that I can see, I wonder if he has pulled an earth off forcing the head unit in, as there are a lot of wires behind there and not much room.

There is nothing to say the stuff done to the amp/sub did cause this, but I thought I would mention it as it could be relavant.
