Re: help needed glasgow or lanarkshire area

hi m8 , i hope u dont mind me gettin in touch with you but lui in the forum said you may be able to recommend someone , i have fiat bravo 1.2sx 51 model and had some probs with it had new clutch is fine now and now when accelaratin it makin a awful noise , had it in garage of a friend and he says maybe engine prob but as he not fiat he cant look at it , can u help m8 thanks in advance

Hi mate, best if i reply here then it may help someone else or someone will see it who knows more than me!

I'm not sure of a garage in the glasgow area, there's a decent fiat garage down near me, but i'm down at Ayr, not sure of anywhere in Glasgow.

On the 1.2 there's not much a normal mechanic couldnt do to investigate a noise etc. I take it your engine management light isnt on or anything. Only specialist tools needed would be for some of the diagnosis (engine management based) although should be OBD compatible on a 51 plate and for setting the timing.

Is it running at the moment, can you describe the noise. What work have you had done on it of late?

Also i would duplicate this thread on http://www.fiat-scotland.com/phpBB3/index.php not as technically minded but someone may be able to recommend a garage.

hi guys thanks so much for your quick replies , i appreciatte them
i have had new clutch done and it was fine .
when i accelarate there is an noise , not whining but a kind of ( cant describe it sh**) as if im accelarating to 90mph but only got my foot on the pedal just .
had it in arnorld clark garage where my brother (as a labourer)works and they changed ignition coils and so , but stil same noise , he said it maybe somethin to do with the engine,( a valve or something, im waitin him call me bck to ee what he thinks , he is a good guy and not charged me for any of this work he done , clutch he took 40 pounds for as i know him well) the car can start and will run but he says i might feck up the catalytic converter if i drive it

If it was a damaged valve then a compression test should show it up.

As for the noise does it sound screechy, clunky, rumbley?

Re: help needed glasgow or lanarkshire area

it sounds kind of (racing) mountain m8 if that any good to you , no grinding or crunchin , sounds like it comes from alternator area but im no good with cars m8 honestly ,
u say u have a 1.2 sitting doin nothin , are u any good with cars as i wouldnt know how to swap a screw for a screw m8 , i would gladly pay you for your time if i can manage to get car down your way, and would you know how much it is roughly to put it into fiat for them to diagnose m8 ,

thanks again for your help

Re: help needed glasgow or lanarkshire area

I'm not a whiz, know the basics, have a friend who helps me big time, however he's really really busy just now.

I'd take it to a fiat garage, get them to diagnose and give you a price to fix. It will depend on how long it takes them to diagnose, some might do it for £40 if it only takes and hr.

Then if its gona be mega expensive you can always think about using 2nd hand parts etc.

if they changed the coilpack then they must think it is misfiring, is the noise the only symptom or do you have an erratic idle and rough running and power loss as well?

roughtly how many miles after the clutch change did this start happening?

do a compression test, head gasket problems often cause this on the 1.2.
