I have a 1.4 12v Bravo SX. Basically its not fast enough and i want a HGT but dont want to bother with selling my car as i have become attached to it so i was wondering if anybody knew anything about engine conversions and how difficult this conversion would be. Is it straightforward and easy 'cos they're both bravo engines or is it really technical. Does anyone know where i could get it done? i have tried Van AAken but they couldn't help me. What bits would i need? i know i would have to source the engine, gearbox, ECU, wiring loom and front brakes but is there anything else i need ( driveshafts etc) Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated, Thanks. P.S HELP ME SOMEONE!!

Help

The short, honest and simple answer is.... become un-attached to your car.

You would need, an engine, gearbox, ECU (possibly part of the wiring loom), driveshafts, hubs, callipers, discs, pads, manifold, cat, complete exhaust...possibly steering rack, pas pump etc.

You'd essentially have to find a complete crashed HGT and transplant all of the bits.

The question is, is it really worth it? Would you (or a garage) really do a better job than a real HGT made at the factory by Fiat.

Then you have to also think, the HGTs are very well equiped. They got 15" alloys, more toys, some have leather etc. Wouldn't it be so much easier to just go out and buy one, especially since there are quite a few about in very good condition (unlike the Bravo HGT predecessor - the Tipo 2.0 16v - only 500 in the country.)

Also, now that the Stilo is out, used Bravo prices should be even better.

If you still did fancy doing a transplant, why not do something really special, like a 20v Trbo conversion from the Coupe 20v Turbo (220 bhp.)

Essentially, you'd need the same parts to carry over, but you'd have a much more powerful and unique car that would also be worth more if/when you came to sell it.

Anyway, hope this helps. All the best with whatever you decide to do.

Cheers
Nareman.

cheers...

Thanks for the advice mate. you're right that it probably would be more hassle than its worth. I would get the turbo conversion but im only 18 so insurance wouldn't be affordable. I think ill wait and sell my car and buy a HGT. Either that or get a better gearbox and fit a 50bhp shot of nitrous. Will the nitrous toast my engine or insurance or both? Does anybody know if i can fit a different bravo gearbox? (i was thinking of a 1.8hlx or a HGT one) any advice would be welcome... anyway cheers 4 the advice nareman!
