Hi all my beloved hlx has spent the last month in and out of the garage fisrt it started with my MOT which it failed, it neeeded new disks pads, a cv gaiter plus your other little bits like wiper blades, bulbs which were fine but oh well, plus the actual test this set me back a total of about 300quid. then less than a week later my clutch felt f**cked put a post on here to which a few of you replied inc the great Tom getting it spot on my clucth cilender had it done costing me a further 100quid. Then 2days later the clutch went again even worse the before, took it back to which the garage said my clutch had gone whilst there my starter motor f**cked up so that would need replacing to. came away with the garage quoting me a total of 300quid slowly running out of ca$h i rang around and searched the web found a starter motor on the web for 35quid bought it. Couldnt find much cheaper prices for the clutch though so i went back to him today to say go ahead 90quid for the clutch i got the starter and 110 to fit the2 he said the cheapest clutch he could get would be 130quid and its been a s**t trying to get at it all so labour would be 210quid now ive been quoted 220inc part else where but he says this wont be with a genuwine fiat clutch and it will not last even a year is this true? and is it reallly that bad to fit them on the bravo, also what type of prices is everyone else paying i know im being ripped of. Cheers in advance Danny

There is no such thing as a 'Fiat' clutch. Fiat does not make them. I believe all fiat brake parts are actually made by Brembo. (yes, they make normal parts as well as performance parts)

Your garage is telling lies just to make you pay more. You have no guarantee that they would even fit a fiat one.

Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

cheers tom ok so brembo make them but if i was to get another make not neccesarily (spelling) a cheap crappy one but just cheaper then 130quid then is it really going to be that shite. and what type of prices should i be looking at as i know that they are ripping me off. also is it that hard to fit a clutch and the starter. cheers

Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

It could also be the garages fault that your starter went. Its a common prob of starters going after the clutch being replaced. Something to do with not being connected correctly I think

Re: Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

A clutch is a long job so it will never be cheap. The kit is probably 50-60 as is. 2hrs to fit.

Re: Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

that would be just my bloody luck but is there anyway of proving that the garage nakerd it. i dont actually think it is my clutch that has gone there is an arm (sorry no profesional terms) which is supposed to be going to the bearing when the cylinder touches it but it just swings freely any ideas.

Re: Re: Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

well you say that is long compared to what he is saying then that is flying hes on about like 7hours if it was 2 hours then id be happy.

Re: Re: Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

Your release bearing has gone, sometimes bits can fly about and hit the starter.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

if it is my realease bearing how easy is it to fix and how much also is it easy to recognize as the mechanic hasnt recognized it yet.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

It's the same labour to get at the thrust, so the best way is to get the complete clutch renewed i.e. thrust bearing, pressure plate and driven plate. Most modern parts are made by a small number of firms nowadays, so should be ok.

i paid £200 for clutch fitted 2yrs/20k warranty from mister clutch. plus additional £90 for slave cylinder.

they were the best prices i could get here in norfolk.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

Danny, you won't get it any cheaper than £200.

Be happy, my van finally popped its radiator last night, £200 just for the new rad!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: HELP ME TOM OR ANY1 WITH SOME KNOWLEDGE

Clutch

Just been quoted, for my 105jtd, by a Fiat specialist (not agent), £197.50 labour and £141.81 for genuine Fiat parts.

Re: Clutch

Danny, get your yellow pages out and look under 'friction linings' or 'clutch' and you will probably find a couple of brake and clutch wholesalers in your area. Give them a ring. :)
