Hello,

I have had in the past :
-a punto II 1.9D,
- a Punto II 1.8 HGT,
- a Brava 1.9 JTD,
- a Marea 1.8.
I currently have :
- a Punto II 1.2L,
- a Punto II 1.3 MJT.

So my new car will still be a Fiat.
Friday, I should buy a new panda.
I can have at least 5500 euros discount for buying a Panda (3000 from the government when you own an old car).

I can't choose between these 3 models :

Panda 1.2L lounge :
pro :
1.2L Fire is a well proven engine,
the Lounge version has many options.
low price : below 8000 euros

Panda cross 85 TW
pro :
the most powerful and torquey
6 speeds
rear disc
look and higher height
cons :
I don't know how the TA can last
price : below 10000 euros

Panda cross hybrid launch edition :
pro :
I really like the look : color and seat
6 speeds
cons :
it is a new engine and they should be problem in the future

All these cars will have a warranty of 10 years/100 000 km

Now :
I do 40 000 km every year 90% of highway at 110 km/h
So in less than 3 years, the warranty will vanish.
I can live with a 70HP engine, I do have much more powerful cars when I want more fun.
I never drive in a nervous way.

I'm looking for fuel economy and for a car that will not let me on the side of the road.
For this I do like the 1.2L with a real camshaft and a 4 cylinders (no crazy flywheel)

Can someone tell me if the 1.0 fire fly engine use conventional camshaft or a multi air technology ?

Can the TA last 200 000 km ?
How about the chain change ?

I know the 1.2L will driving like I do with synthetic oil change every 10 000km and only highway.

If I could I would choose the 1.2L engine in a cross city (no more produced) with the launch edition color and interior.

ps : please do not tell me not to choose a Panda for such mileage, my Puntos are much more older and I still use them

Thanks for your help

Please take a test drive on the motorway in a twinair panda, i can't recommend it enough but the fuel economy might be a problem for you but thats partly the driver's foot fault.
Is it the 4x4 Cross or the city false cross you'd be going for? Get the rear tints and heated windscreen, two extras i got that I'm so glad it did, as I hate scrapping frosty windows and wee thieving bawbags looking for anything to pinch in the rear of cars.

I had planned to test drive the new hybrid but covid has put a stop to that.

10year warranty? Since when?

I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever panda you go for.

Thanks for the advices
10 years warranty applies for all fiat sold in France, this with 0% credit and huge discounts are the results of the covid19 desease.
The TAs available have the heated seats and windscreen.
The 3000 euros help from the government only applies for the first 200 0000 cars sold, so it is not possible to order a car, you have to go fast and buy what the dealers have in stock.
I will ask to try a TA, with the covid, all the cars are close and you can't even go inside !

BTW, I would like to know the TA engine problems that members have encountered.
This engine will probably be stopped, but on the bright side, after 10 years some problems should have been corrected. I least I hope.

Panda Twin Air with winter pack every time. They will do 200k km. I've done 64k km in two, been fine. gar074 done more than me, his been fine.

I sincerely hope the Panda TA 4x4 will last me forever. However at 82 "forever" is not going to be forever, if you know what I mean.
I have only done 6700 miles in 2 years in the TA, but it has been faultless (as I would expect) and I anticipate it will remain so for a long time to come. If mine does 200,000 km I'll be happy (in real money that's about 135,000 miles)

So this morning I went to the fiat concession, after many days of uncertainties I finally choose the Panda launch edition hybrid.
Unfortunately when I came the two cars promised were not there and the woman told me that it will not be possible to get one.
All the fiat lounge were also sold and of course the 5000 euros base one.
They have a stock of city cross TA though. I didn't want one until I ask for a demo, I really like this engine and the car (height and seats), so I went for this one.

I bought the while model in order to save 500 euros, some cars had allow wheels and other steel, so I chose the allow wheel.

I paid (with credit) : 10500 euros, everything included (fuel, title, …)
That a good discount : 3000 euros for my old car, 1500 euros discount for all pandas, 1000 euros discount for all fiats, plus 500 euros discount these 3 days
I even got the panda carpets free (60 euros)
I have the winter pack (hot seats and windshield), plus a real spare wheel.
10 years warranty
With the credit, they will give me the full Panda price for 3 years in case my car is damaged or stolen and +50% after

Again this is not the car I was planning to buy, but it will be my car now and I'm happy (first new car after 26 years) :)
I hope the engine will be safe

It’s interesting to see how the specs and options vary from one market to another. Looking through the fiat.fr website I see France gets a third 4x4 model: the top spec Cross, the 4x4 we get here, it also a less well equipped’Wild’ version. All come with DAB and standard (an option in the U.K.), but none gets front foglights. No leather steering wheel as standard, but the option of the boot ‘cargo box’ is there (no longer listed in U.K. but a useful thing that keeps small things safe under the boot carpet and gives a level booot floor when the seats are folded. And no ‘stop/start’ system? My French is not good so I may have misread the specs...

Totally agree with you, I have the Cross with winter pack, tints and parking sensors. The only problems I've had were a disconnected front windscreen washer hose coming adrift and some corrosion on a roof bar, both sorted under warranty.
