Can anyone tell me what the best course of action is now i only have my red key left??
Lost 1st blue key & remote fob a few months ago along with a jacket that was nicked.
Now cant find other one, my 2 year old daughter being the prime suspect.. have turned the place upside down.
Ihave heard that you should not use the red key for general use. how do i go about getting blue keys & blue remote alarm (meta) fobs.
Any advice on this and possible £££'s would be of great help. ( Apart from the obvious, 'you shouldn't be such a careless ****' advice!!)

cheers U

As far as I'm aware there's nothing wrong with using the red key for day to day use.

But, bearing in mind your past record with keys....not a good idea in your case! ;)

Red key

If i was you I would get a couple of blue keys cut. if you lose the other key It will cost an arm and a leg. cost about £50 for two keys, you might get a discount for having two done. Any good locksmith will do em

As Mark says, the only danger of using the red key is losing it.

At least you have it which means you can program blue keys easily. Get 2 new blues cut and program them into the immob with the red key.

correct me if im wrong im sure timpson cut fiat keys and at a good price

Taking the red key to timpsons is not the best idea, cos all you will get back is 2 red keys in a blue plastic head. You cant use the red key to load in the 2 new keys because the red code is already in there!, and the newly cut keys will work straight off. There are several ways out of this:-
1, Buy 2 new keys from Fiat and use red key to introduce them to the system.
2, Get 2 secondhand keys from scrappy and have each ones codes SEPERATELY copied into 2 programmable keys (Timpsons). Keep the red key firmly in your pocket until this is done. When programmed give red key to locksmith and allow him to profile the blade of both keys.
Use the red key to introduce the 2 new keys.

FIAT will do you a blue key from the red - £60, quick and safe, admitedly not the cheapest, but far and away the easiest.

Yes, I agree go the Fiat route, its less trouble, but you will need 2 new keys because you cant load in just one... I dont think anyway.

Get the Khosher blue key cut and programmed from FIAT then take a trip to Timpsons.

as RR says. If you ONLY have a red key, you should get FIAT to cut you a new blue one.
THEN get Timpsons to clone your new blue one for £25 and keep that as a spare.

Thanks for all the replies guys, v helpful as usual.

Timpsons said that cos my car is a 51 reg i have to take it to fiat for them to do it properly & code new keys to car.
Apparently if my car was pre 2000 the could have done it, something about insurance reasons.
They said it would not have been a prob if i just wanted to copy a blue key.

Anyway, this just shows what dodgy gits fiat bolton are, called them and they said £60 + vat per key then a few hours labour to code them in.............

Fiat in Wigan ( which is further but always go there cos they seem good ) said £30 per key then maybe 1/2 hour to an hour to code them in..
Talk about not singing from the same hymn sheet!!!
Now i am still shagged cos have no remote fobs though. bet thats gonna cost mucho ££££
Unless i just can disconnect the alarm??

get a new transponder with two new button fobs. goes for about £50 iirc.

where would i get that lot from?
Main fiat dealer, or from meta systems?

cheers, Urie

sorry to but in on this but would i be right in assuming that my car has remote locking (its a 1997 1.6sx) as it has a meta alarm? when i got the car i got a small key and a red key, but nothing with a remote.
cheers.

Sounds like it should have but not sure..
When i got my car it had 2 blues and a red.
With each blue i had a tiny metal key and a round remote fob, for central locking & alarm.
With red key got alarm code card.....

Urie- Timpsons are not quite correct. its nothing to do with insurance, its all to do with their equipment which can only copy keys. Each Fiat key has a unique code, so you will need 2 new unique coded keys, beacause the car will only allow you to load 2 DIFFERENT keys. So you cant load just 1 key in and then copy your new one at Timpsons. Believe me, I've looked deeply into this subject.
