Technical Help if you can please

Hi all new to the forum
We have a y plate 115 jlx I think with the 1.9 jtd
The gear selector pin snapped last Thursday
I'm quite handy so removed and stripped box
Ordered new pin
Fitted yesterday
Now the pin does nothing and I can't select any gears
The box is in bits again
Does anyone have any tips

What pin are you on about?

The gear selector itself
Goes into the gearbox
Held in place with a diamond shaped plate under a rubber seal
Has a spline like driveshaft at the bottom
Inside box has springs and bushes and an actuator arm at the bottom
On the top has a flat piece of steel witha bolt and weight on it and the ballpoint which the cable connects to

Well new clutch in box rebuilt with new selector and all boxed back up
The bug is back on the road yay
