I tried to take the egr off to clean it today, got everything off except the bottom pipe, wouldn't budge so I put it all back together.

Here is the problem, when it came to putting the (not so) flexible metal pipe back on at the side I can't get it to fit in place, gave up after about an hour and tried to start the car without it, didn't start acting like it has a flat battery there was also a bang smoke and flames out of the engine where the right hand side of that pipe would have been connected.

Please help Mrs is going crazy

Tell her to calm down.

Obviously you are going to need to re-affix the not so flexible pipe, are you sure you have it the right way round?

Loosen all the other bolts to near the end of their thread and try to attach it, then tighten them all.

Yep I had exact same problem...couldn't budge the bottom Allen screws..so I left it alone and just blanked it.

Ok just worried I've blown the engine up :s where did you blank it then? Some people have blanked both ends of that flexi pipe is that what you did??
What about my smoke n flames?

Just blank it at the top..that's what I done...just be warned that there probably no going back after...as I think the egr clogs and seizes

Thanks, so the pipes back on, will order 2 blanking plates today as I've lost the gaskets anyway so may as well do away with it, still won't start, I'm all set to get a jump now, when I just tried to start it though I got the following messages: abs sys faulty, ebd sys faulty, oil level unavailable turn off engine

Make sure you wait for the system to do a check first before starting as I get all kind of weird faults at times if I don't...
Also a flat battery can cause strange problems

I call mine 'George'

Some people call it the flexible pipe from the EGR valve to the head.

That pipe you're talking about, what's it called? The garage split mine so although the sound is brilliant in the car, it needs sorting.

I have no idea mate, I don't even know what it connects to, just glad I'm all sorted now thanks to some forum help and a new battery, turns out it dropped a cell purely coincidental much to the annoyance of my Mrs (she likes things to be my fault)

Oh one other thing, I got one of her mate's to jump start me, didn't work (her car is a 1.0 micra lol) and it sent all her electrics crazy, thought I'd fried her alternator but as it happens some that had replaced a relay with a fuse in her car (now melted) replaced and everything now good

Mike I saw on another post that someone had blanked both sides off, could do that??

that's the way these things go..

chances are it would be good enough to crank the car in everyday use.. but the extra effort after a strip down was just too much,

glad it's all sorted (y)
