My 1.4 fiat lump has decided to give up on me. i was going to replace the engine but i'm considering putting a bigger lump in has anyone converted a 1.4 to 1.8 and if so how easy is it am quite mechanical minded but just thought id get some opinions first. any help would be great cheers?

You'd need the engine, wiring loom, ECU, fuel tank and pump, driveshafts, gearbox, new front brakes, radiator... the list goes on. Its not like swapping the engine on a mini.

Buy a 1.8 already in a car i'd suggest, it can't make any kind of financial sense to do it the way you're suggesting. What is wrong with the engine you've got, it's just stopped??

Theres a hole in the sump somethings hit underneath the car before i had chance to do anything the engine had seized the reason i wanted to put the 1.8 in this car was cause the bodywork is in mint condition.

Your best bet would be another 1.4 or find a 1.8 thats had a rear end smash.

The 1.8 brakes are different to the 1.4 (for obvious reasons) as well as the driveshafts, gearbox, engine mounts, electrics...

cheers mate thanks for the advice will have to see what i can get hold of.

Tom, why need to change the fuel tank? Only as I get asked this sort of question frequently, but never thought to change the tank unless the pump was inadequate and the 1.8 one was insufficient.

I'm pretty sure the 1.8 has a different pump. Without seeing the pressures and flow rates its impossible to say.

The inj systems on the 1.4 and 1.8 are VERY different.
