I've changed one door handle and its fine. Fiddly but the change was ok.

Just doing drivers side and now the door/car wont lock.

The locking mechanism at first wouldn't go down. Now the locking rod to the handle is loose and the locking door pin (thing that sticks up above the door card) is stuck.

I can't see a damn thing and I really don't have a clue what has gone wrong or what I need to do to fix it.

Can anyone help please?! My car is insecure and will not lock until I fix this :(

Have you not overtightened the nuts, if you have that will prevent the handle returning properly when opened.

AS for the door pins, is the rod not been put in too high up or the angle is incorrect?

Best to take the other side door panel off and check with the good door where you've gone wrong.

Ok...

If you ever see a Blue Bravo reg R476 WLA heading your way... run for the hills. I really shouldn't be let loose on cars.

Just worked out that you can't lock an open door. Soon as I simulated closing the drivers door... oh look, it all works!

I always work on a 'test it as you go along' approach to save having to go back and redo it. Trouble is, I hadn't reckoned on Fiat actually being half intelligent and stopping you from locking an open drivers door. Thing is, having tried passenger side first - that allowed me to lock it iirc so I got in a muddle on drivers side when it didn't lock!

Oh well, cheers for help anyhow.. I'm just thick :)
