Technical Help!!! Dash warning lights!!!

The other day i was driving my punto and when i came back home and parked up the dash warning light came on near the speedo.

It was a amber light and in the owners handbook it says that it is EOBD SYSTEM ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM - petrol versions (the light wouldn't go out but the engine worked fine and sounded fine). The next morning the light disappeared when driving about 100 yard.

The day after it went out the AIRBAG FAILURE (red) light came on the dash just whilst driving.

Is this because my speedo display thingy is broke and needs replacing because 2 different lights have come on and disappear by themselves (also handbrake light comes on and off) or is it an electrical problem or is it because there is something really wrong with my EOBD SYSTEM ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM and AIRBAG FAILURE.

How will i fix it?
Can i fix it myself?

Been a week and still the airbag light stays on no other lights have come back on please help.

The airbag light won't go off until you have it reset at a dealer. I expect it's something strange going on with the dials, but I'd do a diagnostics check to make sure.

if its an mk2 im pretty certain you could do it yourself with a kkl-interface and the unidiag software. It took me 5min to reset the airbag light on my 2000 mk2 sporting.

Im still having difficulties connecting to my mk1 though, but hopefully I can get it sorted.

I have had the same problem with my punto (2004 model) and also my friend with an 02. A Red light come son for airbag, and the yellow flashes. Also sometimes when i brake and turn corners my handbrake light comes on. it all started when i replaced some fuses. ever since then they have been faulty. I think it is fiat puntos in general are just crap !

Yes mate sounds exactly same as mine handbrake light comes on round corners but the brake fluid is full and brakes have been bled. I get amber light some times but airbag light wont go off now.

buy yourself a vag-com kkl-interface like the one at the bottom of my post and wait till it arrives.. download unidiag software in the mean time, join the yahoo unidiag group to do so. When the cable arrives, open it up and join pin 1, 3 and 7 together and close it up again. Hook it up to the connector next to your fusebox, hook it up to your laptop on the other end... fire up unidiag, press connect... clear error and youre done.

i get random lights flashing on and off at variouse speeds corners and ideling, but they are never on for more than 10 seconds at a time, even the fuel warning light comes on when i've just rimmed the fuel tank! i think that you can't really rely on the dash lights, but i would worry with the air bag one, if there is a fault and the air bag goes off when you are driving... well lets just say the out come will not be too good.

What do you mean when you say:

What do i open and what are these pins?
What is the connector next to the fuse box?
