Yesterday the belt tensioner pulley broke into thousand of pieces whe driving at about 2-3K RPM. The engine stopped, however I can rotate both crankshaft and camshaft without any collisions. My question is: Is the 1,4 12v engine vulnerable to timing belt rupture in terms of valves/head damage? I mean is this engine collisive?

thanx in advance for your advice

Hi
Sorry 2 here about ur misfortune with the cambelt also 2 tell u it's not a safe engine wich means u most definately have valve damage.
Regards.

Me too :(

Yup, my N reg Brava went the same way over christmas, Sucks. The engine is most definatively collisive, however, there is a sight godsend in the design that may limit the damage. It seems Fiat designed the cam followers to be a lot softer than the valves themselves, some of the followers may be destroyed, but the valves themselves may be ok, saving globs of cash.

From reading on the web, this seems to be fairly common experience with the older reg bravo/bravas due to a defective tensioner pully supplied by a sub-contractor.

Hope this gives you some hope ;)

Re: Me too :(

Out of interest, how many miles had the car done?

Re: Re: Me too :(

62,000 miles on the clock. Failed suddenly without warning.

Oooh bugger!

I'm on 63k at the mo in my 1.2
However, somewhere above it states that this is a common fault on the older Bravo's. Does this mean it improved on the mk2 Bravos? Mines a 99 T
