Technical Help!!!! Airbag sensor????

Well done multiplani It is good to see that you kept everyone up to speed with your progress, and most importantly let the forum know how you got there in the end, and that it is now fixed. Far too often on a lot of forums when looking for advice, you see people getting advice, but they never follow up to say thanks and what x y or z said fixed my problem. Then when one has the same problem themselves, you are no wiser on. Anyway I live in Belfast and I know about fiat dealers wanting to stick the arm in to reset the air bag light. A couple of years back I was testing the voltage of a connector, with the ignition on, which results in the air bag warning light coming and staying on. So called fiat and then wanted £60 to just read. I got a cable of ebay £10 and downloaded fiatecuscan, and was able to do a check and reset it. It is only from this year that the MOT in NI includes that all instrument warning lights must light and then extinguish. Whereas before people would take the bulbs out. Once again thanks for the updates.

Funny you say that...I swear it initially came on when I did a similar thing...ie - pulled fuses with ignition on (as warned not to do in manual). I was sure it just needed reset and never even gave it a thought until getting ready for MOT but the thing just seemed to not want to go out!!!

Anyway, after all the hassle getting it ready & replacing all suspension bits, rebuilding callipers, balancing brakes etc etc etc....

IT FAILED ON HEADLIGHT ALIGNMENT DUE TO A FAULTY BULB!!!

Anyway...passed now with flying colours and the airbag light has stayed off!

So just to recap for anybody with the same issue...if you cant find the usual connectors under your seats or carpet...

Remove the dash and disconnect & clean the 2 connectors in the passenger airbag...

But remember to remove drivers side of dash first to allow removal of passenger side without breaking fittings.

Don't be afraid to tackle it...I'm only learning and I am sure I could have it all done in an hour next time!

Oh & you know what...its worth taking the plastic trim off on the centre floor to get at the airbag sensor and give it a blow out with some compressed air and cleaning the connectors...I was amazed how much crud was in there!!!
