Hi folks,

I joined here a while back but have spent most of my time on punto sports club, been spending more time on here since getting another sporting and thought it about time I said hello.

my name is Thomas I live in south-weat Scotland with my girlfriend Shonagh and my dogs Daisy and Luna:

Here is the first sporting we owned,

I am 31 now and sometimes think I am getting to old for the GT but I love a bit of boost!

Here is one of the GT, aka Black Boosty, the day we collected it from Luton (check out the wheels!)

and a couple more from a while back

and more up to date

I have had it for five years now, had to take the dash out to replace the heater matrix so removed the full interior and rubbed back, welded and painted everywhere. It recently developed a missfire and it took ages to learn it was a worn lobe on the camshaft :banghead: Replaced it with a camshaft from a Fiat X19 and it runs like a dream, I am told this cam is ideal for a bigger turbo.
I have lots to go on it , Still lots I would like to do to it. The SOHC engine is great and its amazing what can be built with other fiat parts (1.6, 1.9). I think I will have it for a while so who knows .
Now the inside and under the car is all painted and protected I will start on the Abarth kit and rest of the paint work, only a couple of stonechips to sort and spray, and a few hours with a rotory polisher.

After looking at loads of makes of cars we could not help but get another sporting for a second car, and here it is

we have these cobra's in it now but thats the only mod along with some blue mats

This site is a wealth of information and I'm sure I will be a Fiat fan for years to come. I would love to hear from other GT/Sporting owners in the south-west but I think GT owners in Scotland are few and far between.
Thanks for reading, look forward to meeting up, any one ever go to any Irvine cruises?

'ello and welcome. For the record you're never too old for a bit of boost ;) :D

Good to see a GT being looked after though. There's a mint condition one being thrashed round the lap in my home town and I reckon it's days are numbered :(

Thanks for the warm welcome folks
I guess the GT really is a dying breed these days

Scottmc joined here a few months ago with a GT but its being broken for parts on the 'bay.

I do sometimes wonder why I put all the time and effort in to the old girl but when I turn it over and it fires up I can't help but smile everytime :)

Welcome along to FS :)

Have vaguely thought about a GT as a replacement for the Stilo though it's part of a rather large list of possibles  Did see a mk2 for sale on FF (I think) with a GT engine, which sounded interesting :)

Yes that would be a good combo, the mark 2 is way more comfortable and handles well.

I have even seen one with a 2.0 24v turbo lump on board

I would have to recommend the Mk1 Gt for pure fun and having turbo in a car most people think came only as 1.2 he he

Heard about the 20VT conversion, think it was actually the same one I'd mentioned with the GT engine in an earlier state. In fact, found it... http://www.fiatforum.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=27928&cat=24 :)

But yeah, had hankered after a 1.2 16v as a first car but never got the money together for one. Did get a mk2 1.2 8v before the Stilo but that was so slow people overtook me on bicycles

Thinking about it it's a really deceptive combo, an old car which is regarded as lacking in power and which everyone wants to overtake but able to shock those who underestimate it. It's why the GT being ragged round Ellon gets more than a few surprised looks as well as the usual disapproving ones.

I love it when youngsters are out in dads 2.0L and feel invincible sitting on my bumper,
only to face humiliation in front of their pals when they hear me spool up.
To be honest i really wanted an uno turbo but still drool over the Panda 4x4s when i see them on the 'bay too.
i must just have the fiat bug.

Yes that's the one,
Shame he had so much trouble selling it but people will always be nervous with these sorts of conversions.
I could use the mk1 1.6 sporting block and remap the ecu. The gt head, gearbox and flywheel all go on this block and I would be able to spool a bigger turbo and still look like a standard 1.4 under the bonnet

Nice :)

If I were taking mine further, I could take a page out of some non-UK modifiers and stick a turbo on mine. Just dunno how easy it'd be nor how expensive. Know it's been done on a mk2 Punto with the same engine though so in the words of Top Gear, how hard can it be?

Tempted to get another Fiat next but there's just so much out there...
