Hi everyone.
I am a total forum novice so if I break any rules I apologise in advance!
I have been reading your forum for a couple of months since buying a light blue X reg 8V basic Punto (2001) on 60,000 miles for my son and daughter to use. I have really enjoyed it and found it so useful and entertaining ! It's good to know that many of us share the same rattles and leaks. Overall, despite being a bit "fragile" we love the car. Particularly the fuel consumption (42mpg on motorway runs so far) as money is tight like most people these days. The handling feels a bit wooly but I don't mind as it stops my son who thinks he is the next Lewis Hamilton from pushing it too hard ! I have already had a new clutch and sump fitted due to judder and rust (in that order). I have found though that the exhaust manifold heat shield is rattling and loose due to it only having 2 useful bolts at the top and 1 at the bottom. The others have sheared off, so I daren't risk tightening up the others too much as they might go the same way! Somebody suggested drilling the remains out and replacing them with self-tappers. Can anyone tell me if this is a good idea? If not are the proper bolts easy to get hold of ? Any tips for drilling out the remains of the bolts?
Also the exhaust is blowing just slightly at the back box. I have read conflicting comments that the exhaust is a 1 piece, or you can just get the back box.Which one is it ?
Thanks in advance if anyone can help with any of this. I am looking forward to joining the "community".
Thanks folks.
