500X Hello - and correct Oil......again!

Hi, I'm new but have taken many tips from this forum over the years so thanks for everyone's help so far. I've had a few Fiats, first car was a Cinquecento, I've had the brava and bravo, just given my 500 TA (which I loved) back and picked up a 1.3 multijet 500x. I do as much of my own maintenance and repair as I can and my first question is about oil (I'm sorry). Will any old 0w30 C2 Oil do in the Euro 6 1.3 or does it have to be Selenia? People comment that you have to use selenia on the Twinair but it ran like a dream on Mannol with no obvious issues or drop in performance, I change my oil every 5/6,000 miles regardless but I hear the 1.3 is a very sensitive engine, does anyone else service theirs without Selenia and how do you get on with it?

The mj will be less sensitive than a TA..

AS it just provides lubrication and chain tensioner damping (same as TA..)
But the oil doesnt control the fuelling in the same way.


Ive got 3 older mjs and they are run on good quality oils.. but certainly not selenia

How many miles do you do?

Do you have the OBD kit to keep an eye on the DPF?

It is the MultiAir petrol engines (not Multijet) that are sensitive to oil specifications due to their inlet valves being hydraulically operated as opposed to be physically camshaft operated.

I note the the later Mulitjet 1.3 engines now use the Selenia WR FORWARD (SAE 0W-20,ACEA C2) oil which different to the previous Selenia WR (5W-40, ACEA B3/B4,API CF)

You should not use a 0W-30 C2 oil. However you should be OK using any quality make SAE 0W-20,ACEA C2 oil.

Sorry its taken me ages to reply to this and thanks everyone for your input. I do about 20,000 miles per year and yes I have the OBD kit (need it to reset the oil degradation). Its reassuring to know that people are using other brands without issue as Selenia costs quite a bit and noted on the oil spec, thanks for clearing that up or I would have bought a 0w30. Much appreciated
