Hi all.
Thought I should add a thread, following our adventure to the West Midlands over the weekend.
As you may know, we took Poppi on her maiden voyage (with us) up country.
Poppi has always had a "stiff" clutch pedal, but it has never bothered us.
We had to get the cable adjusted by the AA on the way up, as by Chelsea I was really struggling to get her in gear. The journey up after that was fine. Poppi was very happy on the motorway and even ventured in to the fast lane a couple of times for overtaking
Heading towards the Ricoh Centre in Coventry the clutch pedal hit the floor and the clutch was no more
Called the AA out (again) and the very helpful AA man diagnosed the fault . . . .
It would appear that the force exerted on the pedal to change gear had caused the clutch cable (the plasticky round-part-bit that pushes on to the bulkhead in the engine bay) to pop through the hole in the actual bulkhead.
The force had in fact caused a crack/fracture in the bulkhead around the the hole where the clutch cable comes through The AA man did replace the cable and added a big washer to stop the cable coming thru - but we decided against risking the 115 miles and damaging her more if the cable popped through again. Just as well, as Mayor Boris had decided to shut half of London for push bikes.
An interesting journey was had back in a P. . Pr. . What was it?? . . Oh yeah. . a. . .Proton Compact. It had a multi changer so at least Kev was happy.
I've search the forum and spoken to knowledgeable Panda people (you know who you are :worship - and no one knows of this. So, it may be a one off . . . who knows.
It may be worth you guy's and girl's having a quick look to see if you can see daylight round your clutch cable holes (oooo er Mrs )
Anyway, Poppi is staying with family in coventry whilst she has her bulkhead welded and a plate attached. She'll be back in London at the weekend all being well.
You all know she is well loved and the money, is money well spent. Hopefully she'll be on the road for another 23 years.
Ps, as you can imagine the stripe money is going towards this work, so the car fund will need to be replenished before she stripe's again.
