Was driving home in my 2002 scudo jtd when the heater stopped working and the battery light came.
there is a relay that is clicking sometimes and that is knocking off the battery light but it only lasts for a moment and the light comes back on, (tried a different relay but same thing happend)
Now the question is does that sound like an alternater failure or could it be an earth prob, and how do i check the alt.
thanks a million

Hi, this happened on my van, the ecu cuts high load devices when alternator output is low. mine was shot so it was new alty time, but check for loose connections on the wiring first as yours seems intermittent?

As said before check all battery and alternator terminals etc. Check for voltage at battery using volt meter of some description and you should be getting around 14 volts with the engine running. I also read before that if your lights are getting brighter or dimming when you rev the engine this can be a sign of alternator failure.

As I may have said im having the same issue as I have just got my new van, is this a common problem.

I fixed this by getting a new altinator (well one from a 1.6 hdi scudo but it worked, pig of a job though)

I am having exactly the same issue in my 2003 1.9 D!!!!! I was hearing what sounded like a relay clicking and the battery light was blinking at the same time. Now the battery light is continuosly on and the in-cab fan / heater doesn't work.

Looked behind the glove box and there seems to be only one relay and another box next to it which I couldn't remove. However, the one I could remove I tried swapping for another and the light was still on, so no change.

Has anyone got any ideas which I could try / any tips? I'd be eternally grateful (y)

Hi. I had same problem. Tried new fuses and new relay but in end after hours of checking I found it was a worn connector on one of wires behind the glovebox. I found it by accident after checking the motor.
