I have problem removing the head support on the front seats of my uno:bang:. I want to put some new seat covers. Does anybody know how, and explain it to me please?
Thanks.

Hello Dejan,
Welcome to the forum

Are these the headrests with the black or brown textured soft plastic with 'slots' through them - rather than the type that's covered with seat fabric material?

Most Unos have the slotted type - the latter (covered) type is fitted to certain earlier models (up to 1987 I think) and is easily removable - twist the posts through 90 degrees and slide the headrest out.

To remove the slotted headrest type, you have to remove the seat backrest covering material at the base of the seat back. The edge of the material has a plastic strip that you can prise out of the seat metal frame. You need to work the seat covering up a little, then you can reach up inside the seat back and pull out the two P-shaped metal clips (picture of one clip attached). The headrest then lifts off.

Cheers,
-Alex

Thanks Alex
This was helpful also for perfect fitting of a new seat cover with the back of the chair.
Thanks.(y)

Alex, are you saying that the factory seat outers, the sewn cloth, - on the back rest part of the seat - that these can be completely removed so as to expose the sponge, without dismantling any part of the seat (apart from the headrest), and with the complete seat still in the car?

Yes. :)
The cloth has a black plastic strip sewn into its edge. This plastic strip tucks into the metal frame. There's no need to disassemble the metal frame before you remove the coverings/foam sponge.

I must give credit to jjhepburn, who showed me how to completely dismantle an Uno seat in about one minute.

It is thus possible to combine two average seats to make one good one - i.e. to use the foam from a passenger's seat to repair a driver's seat, or to repair a torn covering, etc.

Nice. I'm off to the Indian taylor to get them sewn back together asap!!!(y)

That was an awesome tip. They look like new. Apart from the shape. It's sort of gone like a bean bag. There were some wires under the fabric but everthing came apart at the tailors. How do the wires stay in place under tension once the cover has gone back on.
