Any hoo is there any difference between standard halogen bulbs and Xenon halogen bulbs ??? I do miss the ice blue look any help much appreciated (y)

Madrat , the way i understand it is the gasses they are filled with burn brighter -rated in Kelvin=K, halogen have a orangie-yellowie glow , where as xenon (4700K +)lamps burn an ice white/white/blue white , so i beleive the higher the K the brighter the lamp but they also create more heat so we need to keep to 'E' marked as their safe for Marea headlights, xenon can be between 30-80% brighter , iv replaced mine from normal sidelights to superbright leds , and headlights from halogen to xenon 55/60w but they generate 100w of light and are e rated from ebay for a tenner a pair inc postage(pm if you want details mate) , they REALLY do make a difference in the amount of light on the road making it safer to drive and easier for you to be seen. Hope this is of some help mate.

Unfortunately your thinking of HID bulbs is wrong.

HIDs work by using an Arc from two electrodes. No filament.

The higher the K the brighter the lamp...wrong. Its the colour temperature range, the higher you go the more blue/purple it goes while at the same time reducing light output. The highest light output for HIDs is 4300K.

There are only really 4 colours of HID available, despite the claim of sellers and manufacturers to the contrary. These are Standard factory 4300K (yellowish white), 5000K crystal white with no blue tint, 6000 crisp white light with delicate to moderate blue tint, and 8000K strong blue light. The highest light output is 4300K and the lowest 8000K.

headlights from halogen to xenon 55/60w but they generate 100w of light Try to avoid these types of bulbs and claims. Always go for branded bulbs. A HID kit will convert your halogen bulbs into real HID Xenon lighting. To do this you need power boxes (ballasts) to convert from 12 volt to 85-23000 volts. Many people sell upgraded halogen headlight bulbs as HID Xenon, but these are simply halogen bulbs that have a tiny bit of Xenon gas inside them. The light output of such bulbs is normally less than a good quality standard halogen bulb. If you do not want to go the full step and convert to HID then I recommend the Philips Xtreme and Osram Night Breaker bulbs, and I recommend you avoid the other none branded bulbs.

They are exceptional. Best Halogens with the greatest light ouput so far.

Madrat, pity you ripped it all out - the reason why HID bulb got pink is that it reached the end of its lifespan. Plain and simple - all you need to do now is buy A PAIR of HID burners (they have to be replaced in pairs). And the good one that's left can be for emergency replacement.

BTW - never use 100W bulbs or your wires melt.

Trust me they were badly fitted, and I had never seen HID bulbs like them, I could not see any replacements that looked like them on any website. They had 2 cables attached to the bulbs that you couldn't remove(n)

Thats how aftermarket HID bulbs are.

Standard HIDs found on Mercs, BMWs etc are like typical halogen bulbs. Aftermarket HIDs however are like those shown above.

I must also say that the Halogens seam to illuminate the road better. The HID light made everything else stand out but not the road:confused:

Must've been the wrong color. HIDs shouldn't be cooler that 6000K, otherwise you won't see anything in wet conditions. 4300K-6000K bright white is what factory-fitted HIDs are.

Blue HIDs suck.

Fitted Osram nightbreakes to the Marea today and have just gone for a drive to test them (y) the difference is very noticeable. when on with the 80w main beam driving in the lanes is so much easier, I can recommend them. Available in all sizes from this ebay seller.
