Hi lads. I have a 98 Barchetta built in June of 97.Apparently Fiat, uses two different head gaskets depending on the year I guess. Does anyone know the correct part number. Iv'e already been screwed by receiving the wrong timing belt, 166 teeth instead of the correct 168. :bang:

you are correct wapper.but eper leaves much to desire.I can't find a part number for intake valves and even the timing belt is differentiated by weight and not by teeth count. Rather dumb (mine is 168) Do you know the part number for the valves. Not much info in Canada, thanks

It's interesting as I have no trouble finding part numbers for valves in ePer, see picture below.

Regarding timing belt, why count teeth if you have the correct part number?

well now if you order two timing belt kits for two Barchettas built in June of 97, and shipped to North America , and one comes with a 168 tooth belt and the other with 166, then you have reason to count. It's not like we can trot down to Napa and correct the situation.

I think you have sorted this out now but the gates timing belt catalogue is very informative.
Early engines 168 teeth but two different kits available due to change of tensioner.
Later engine 166 teeth, one kit

Gentleman. After much searching I, find that there are four engine codes for the Barchetta.188A6.000, 183A1.000,188A6000,183A1000. All engines with the point or dot in the code were manufactured from 1995 to 2005. All engines without the dot in the code were manufactured from 1995 to 2004. All engines use the 166 toothed timing belt except 183A1000, made from 95 to 04, which uses the 168 tooth belt.Really...

I bet you anything you like there is no such thing as "dot" or "no dot".
There are two engine modifications, period.

wapper, I believe you are right. I just checked my own engine code and it is 183A1.000.and the belt is 168 tooth. The info I got is from this web site, "Recommended timing belts for Fiat Barchetta". Seems to be a lot of discrepancies regarding this car on line.I just hope the parts I've ordered are correct.

Hmmm in that case I have a feeling that the Gates catalogue is correct all along then.
